how do you play with your baby

I keep reading how important touch is right now in the seventh month....- and how responsive the baby can be. But I dont' know how to 'play' with her.


When your baby moves, do you respond to the movement with a little prod in that area? Or a little poke? Do you roll back and forth to play? I want to make sure she knows I am here and paying attention to what she is doing when she kicks around. I just don't know how to build that touch response relationship.

Anybody ever read anything on this?


*edited to specify that I am 7months pregnant and don't actually HAVE my baby yet! I am trying to play with her in utero!!!

There are all sorts of ways to play touch games. Try singing itsy bitsy spider and using your hand to go up and down her chest, or singing this little piggy and touching her toes. In this book at the end of each chapter are recommendations for different ways to 'play' with your baby: Your Baby's First Year

Your baby might not understand what you are saying or doing but will definitely appreciate the touch! I would play with Joseph every time I changed him and now he loves his changing time (don't know how long that will last but at least for now he has fun!)

i should have been more specific. my baby is still on the inside!!!!!!

I don't know if this qualifies as playing, but when I feel the baby push or kick I push back or rub the area. Sometimes the baby will do it again, and then we have a little shoving match.

I'm not preggo but maybe rubbing the belly and talking to the baby?
Singing the baby lullabies and reading to the baby also.
