How do you put it nicely.....

How do you put it nicely.....

Here's the situation:

A bunch of us are going out dinner for my sister's boyfriend's B-Day. So my sister calls me and tells me that we are all splitting the bill. I said yeah that's fine - I figured that, that's the protocall, I said - you all split the bill except for the B-day person (I wondering why she was telling me).

Then she says, she has a friend who might not understand and think that my sister is paying for the whole dinner bill.

So how could my sister tell her nicely friend that's we are all splitting the bill?

TIA

Maybe she can send out a group email, saying how she's looking forward to seeing everyone and appreciates that everyone likes Boyfriend so much to share in his day.

If that's not possible then word of mouth is the only way...

Have fun!

I normally assume that I am paying my own way unless otherwise told. Is that how they would usually handle dinner checks and such?

Wait until the check comes, look over at the friend and say, Ante Up!

Sorry, you said nicely right.... ante up, please.

i didn't see the email, but I had heard that the person who organized my bachelorette diner told everyone about how much it would cost. I gues s some thing to the affect of,

'For those of you that arne't familar with this restaurant, appetizers, dinner & drinks ( including spliting the cost for Heather) will come to about $-$$ per person.'

It is proabably best if she says it in a group eamil or tells this person, oh jsut so you know, I don't kwo if you'v ebeen to XYZ before, but I've been telling everyone, so & so's birthday should cost about $ each, depending on how much we drink.

That's a great idea. But to be honest, I would NEVER assume someone else was paying for me if we were going out as a group.

Thanks tourist - that's a great way of putting it.

Nferrandi, this person has done this before. My sister won tickets to go to something. So we went by cab and so admision was free, but we had to pay for drinks.

This person thought that since my sister did the inviting, she would have paid for the whole tab.

What the heck is wrong with this girl? Does she think that your sister is made of money? And even if she was, just because you want to include someone doesn't mean you plan to financial support them too. I think in this case, your sister should say something like Tourist suggested just so this girl is clear on the idea tha she is expected to pay for herself.

For us and two other couples, it is normal for the birthday person's spouse to pay for the birthday dinner. Any other outing and the check is automatically split three ways. But I would never presume this would be the case with anyone else.

If I were your sister, I would just tell her that everyone is responsible for their own meals. I am sure the friend can handle the honesty. If she is bothered by it, then she can do what she needs to do.

I would say to the person we are all paying the bill and that she has to put her half into it.
