How do you wash a baseball hat?

My mom used to put my brother's in the dish washer - she'd put it over the bottom of a pot and put it in the top rack. We did it for DH's and it came out good.

DH said he used to have a baseball cap washer, that kept the cap's form while it was in the washing machine.

I always wash them, I put a tennis ball in it and wrap a rubber band around it to keep it in, it helps it not to shrink...but I;ve just 'thrown' them in too.
