Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
You make the whole bridal party chip in...and if you don't have a whole bridal party to chip in with you, try to have it at someone's house.

Nobody's house can accomodate that many people. We could have it outside but if it rains,we are in trouble. The guest list is about 35 to 40 people. HELP!!!

What area do you want to have the shower? Look for restaurants in the area. If youm tell us what area you are looking in, im sure we can give you suggestions.
I have 53 people at my sisters baby shower. WE had it at a restaruant in Holbrook and it cost me around $1200. the final head count was 53...I sent out 90 invites.

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
rent a tent for the backyard? I know my FILs have one that is open on all four sides but just has a top so you can put it over a picnic table or somethinng, so if it rains you're covered. I don't know, I'm just trying to help!
I was at a shower on a rainy day in someone's back yard once and they put up a tarp somehow to cover the whole yard...of course, it wasn't a very large yard but still.

We wouldn't be able to afford that. I don't even know if the bridal party is going to be able to chip in. I don't understand how everyone does it.

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
Personally, I get annoyed when the bridal party doesn't chip in. I don't think it's fair, especially when the cheapest shower I've been a part of was about $700 and they've gone as high as $2000. I've always believed that the shower is a bridal party responsibilty, not just MOH. JMO. Good luck!

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
I think my MOH asked each member in the BP how much they can chip in and then she tried to find something from there. For that many people it is going to be hard to keep it inexpensive, but look around at places. What area are you thinking of? Maybe people have ideas of places that could help you.
You can also do things like, don't serve alcohol and bring in your own cake. That may take a couple of dollars off each person.

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
you could also rent out a VFW hall and then cater it yourself...or have a deli cater it
we had my sisters eparty at my parents house...and it rained!! 75 people in my moms house...its not as bad as you think...they did have a tent outside too

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
I would go with the suggestion of renting a VFW or some kind of hall...and the BP can make food and bring it...don;t even need a caterer..get some crockpots going, someone can make finger sandwiches, veggie dips, cold cut platters...cheese and crackers..maybe some kind of seafood dip...can even make cupcakes and brownies for dessert...don;t even need a cake...and have champagne and soft drinks...you can get all your plates/plastic forks,knives/plastic tablecloths now at Party City( I think thats the name)-----a lot of the party stores have stuff cheap now for graduation parties...and at PARty City, you can get 50% off all the tableware...napkins, plates..etc....Definitely check it out! YOu can make it as special as you want! You can even make the invites if you want!

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
DON'T PANIC! My list is at 65 people and I know my MOH is being very creative....(and she is the ONLY one in my BP...FH and I are only doing a MOH and Best Man)
Just stop stressing and think around the typical ways to do it....
If none of the bridal party can contribute alot of $$ then ask them to give what they can and then also cook a meal or snacks or something....
YOU CAN DO IT.....Plenty of people plan a shower on a tight budget.....
What about the VFW suggestion? Not to mention 35 -40 people can usually fit in someone's house....you'd be very suprised. Besides if your list is 35-40, some people are bound to not be able to make it, so it might be less than that too.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some apartment buildings have party rooms and they are usually quite nice -

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
One other point....your guest list is 35 or 40 people, dont forget there will be some that cannot come.
I definatly think you can rent a VFW or fire hall and cater the food yourself. It will be cheaper. But definatly check some restaurants, their prices arent that bad!! Let me know if you need any help!

Re: How does anyone plan a shower?
NOV: If you have 35 on the guest list, chances are only about 20-25 will show. So there is 10 right there.
What is your budget? Maybe we can help you walk it thru.
Just because its a bridal shower doesnt mean it has to be like the bridal showers you have been to before. There are alternative ways of doing things less expensively without it looking 'cheap'
That said, being in a wedding party and being the MOH is a very expensive undertaking. If you really cant afford even a modest shower, maybe you should discuss with the bride. Im sure she will understand.
