What if they don't get used? Does the hotel charge me? How does it work?
This may be a really stupid question-- but I've never done it before..... I only want to block 5 or so--just in case a few people don't want to drive back home.
TIA

Re: How does blocking rooms at a hotel work?
I researched a few places and none of them charged if you didn't book your rooms, as long as you don't want more than their maximum (usually 15 - 20 rms). You just give them your information and they hold the rooms until 1 month prior to the wedding. If they aren't booked by then, the rooms just go back into their reservatrion system.

It really depends on the Hotel
I blocked at 2 different places. One of them, I had to actually put 50% down and the other was nothing down and if the room are not booked by 2-weeks before, they release the rooms
It really depends

the hotel that i blocked rooms requested that i guarantee at least 10 rooms minimum for one night. if i had 9 then i would be charged for the extra room that is vacant
but like everyone else....they would hold a block of rooms one month prior to the wedding at the locked rate and then after that it would be at the prevailing rate based on availability

Re: How does blocking rooms at a hotel work?
its ok, i just asked all those questions this weekend. they told me if you block too many rooms, say 20 and only 15 get reserved by the guests 30 before the wedding, then they would be released.....and if at the last minute some one wanted to stay they would still get the same rate but it would depend on availability. but it wouldnt go against you if they all didnt get used. so i am going to over estimate rather than under estimate! hth
