Not a stupid question, I was confused by it at first too!
We found it really easy to do.
Call the hotels you are interested in, and tell them you want to block rooms for your wedding. They'll tell you the group rate, and have you sign an 'agreement' ... it'll include the rate & that you understand that the rooms will be released from the block and put back into regular circulation 1 month before the wedding.
All the hotels that we spoke to didn't require any financial obligation from us.
i used this site and got great prices. you dont pay anything. they will hold the room until a month before the wedding.

We did it all by phone & fax.
Hmm..ok let me see if I got this straight. I call them up and sign an agreement (with no $$$$ required)...and if no one books a room one month prior to the wedding they can them rent the rooms to other people, is that correct?

Most hotels let you block rooms and then if they aren't booked by a certain date, the rooms are released to the public. This is definitely the way to go, so that you don't get caught paying for the bill.

Yep all true... the only time you may have to shell out some money is if you want a shuttle service that isn't included. but a lot of hotels include the shuttle service when you block out a certain number of rooms.
