My DH totally hates his job...the people that work there hate him...it's just awful. The industry where he has 20 years experience...is not prevelent in this area....so he would like to take some of his skills and apply them to a new industry. We have sent out hundreds of resumes....no takers. We have no idea how to get out of this rut.
He would really like to get into purchasing since that's what he likes best about his current job. Purchasing signs....purchasing office supplies....same thing, right?
Suggesstions?

Maybe you need to tweak his resume a little. That might help. Also if you're looking on hotjobs or something, don't be so specific because it limits your searching.

When I changed careers, I emphasized the relevant transferable skills and how my past experience allowed me to bring to the position something that other candidates couldn't.

He may need to put in his objective pretty much what Two Bugs said.
Also, elaborate on that in the cover letter.
My husband changed careers, but only slightly. He used to work in a hospital & was friendly with one of teh guys that worked in the hospital for an outside computer company & he let him know he was lookign & eventually got a job through him.
Also, I have heard that soemtiemsit is easier to take an in between step, if that is possible. FOr examble, switch to same job, diffenrt industry or differnet industry, same job. That's doesn't always apply though.
I am also trying to change careers, but I don't even know where to start. At least you husband has a starting point.
He shoudl also see if there are any courses or anything he could take that would give him more knowledge in the area & help his resume.

Luvsun27 I am a resume and cover letter pro. I will FM you my email address and you can send it to me for me to review. I interview many people and revamp a lot of my friends and family.
Just let me know what he wants to do really. I need a specific idea of what he wants to do.
