Is this normally on the invite? How'd you do it, girls?

Well, first, you just don't invite them.

You address the outer envelope to the parents only ('Mr. and Mrs. John Smith' -- NOT 'The Smith Family') and you put only the parents names (Jane and John) on the inner envelope.

If you feel they won't get the hint from just that, put 'Adult Reception to follow....' on your reception cards in the invites.

People should know from the addressing of the invite, though, that their kids are not invited!

You could also put '___ of 2' on the response card, too -- that is, if everyone on your guest list is invited with a guest.

like this: NO lol!

just kidding... just tell them that unfortunately due to finances & your guest list things are kinda tight.
Another way to let them know will be to put on your invitation 'Please join us for a Adult Reception at ____________'

When you address the invitation you just put the parents names, do not include the children.

If they respond with more than 2 coming, then you have to call them and tell them about the 'no children' policy.

And socially aware person will realize that they are invited without the kids.

some people write in small writing on the bottom of the response 'adults only'

i go by the rule of thumb that if it is not addressed to 'and family' or does not have teh childs name on it people shoudl realize - hey your kid is NOT invited - why dont people just get that??

BTW, if people respond for them and their kids, you can call them (or have your parents call if more appropriate) to explain that children are not invited.

ETA - oops someone got to this first!

I like the idea of writing adult reception.

I think people need that extra confirmation. When we had our e party I invited a friend of mine with a guest. He rsvp'd (it was more informal so it was just by phone) and he called me a week before the party and asked if he could bring a guest.

He said he was so excited to get the invite that he just opened the envelope and threw it away!

i agree no children on the invites and if there are any issues ( like i have already been having with my wedding 7 months away with my no children policy) put your foot down and dont budge.....

I also blame it on my mom when peole ask me. I tell them she said NO children allowed =)
