How early before the date are caterers more flexible?

Has anyone waited close to their desired date before they booked their desired hall in order to get the best price?

You would run a big risk in not getting your desired date - also - vendors that you may want may already be booked for that date.

I know. That would be our biggest risk. No dates would be available. We are flexible and could do it anywhere from Sept - Dec 2005.
We would have to postpone our honeymoon anyway to Dec because that it the only time we can go away.

You can always get a cheaper price somewhere if you are willing to do Fri or Sun night - or an afternoon wedding.
I got engaged end of Aug '03 and knew I wanted to get married the next summer - so roughly 11 months later - and I started calling places 2 days after I got engaged and quite a few were booked already!
One person had the nerve to say - why did you wait so long? uh - I got engaged two days ago!!!

I say book at least 1 mont ahead. We got engaged in Feb 03, and booked our hall Dec. 03 for a wedding in Jul 05. Places were not booked yet (at least not for my date), but people were calling to bookfor 2005.
