FH and I have picked a date, and may soon be putting the deposit down for the hall, my question is when do the STD cards go out?
We are getting married 1/17/2010, looking to have teh engagement party in January, but I dont know if we should send the cards out in January of this year, or wait. My reasoning is my family would have to make arrangements to come from Florida, and the extra time could help them save up for it, or arrange the time off

Re: how early is too early for STDs?
Congrats on picking your date. Which RH did you choose?
I think that since you will have a lot of out of town guests, you can send your STDs a little earlier than the 1 year norm. But not TOO early.

I think a year to 9 months. If you send them out too early, people tend to forget, I think. December of 08 or January of 09 will be perfect.

i definitely wouldn't send them out until january of 09.. if you sent them out now people will most definitely forget about them.

I would wait until January of 2009 to send them out. 2010 is over two years away ... no one should need that much time to arrange for travel. A year is more than adequate.

I was told 6 months prior to your wedding b/c any earlier and people might misplace them.

I was told the same, so I sent mine out in January for a July Wedding

I would send them a little more than a year in advance, since you have a lot of OOT guests. However, I would mention to people that you set a date informally if you want, and you can make a wedding website and put the link on your e-party invites etc if you want to give people a heads up.
