How exactly do you pick the DJ?

Do they come to you or do you go to them?

Many have showcases and you can see them in action. Check out their websites.

You have to go to them of course. I think it would be kind of hard for them to chug all their equipment all around the plac.e

I don't know - my friend asked me if they can come to you but I haven't even gotten as far as booking a RH so what do I know about picking a DJ?

Im not sure with all DJ's but I went to Tommy Tunes and they show you videos of them in action so you can decide if you like them or not.

I guess they would come to you and show your a dvd of parties they have done. I have only gone to their office and havent heard of them coming to the client. The wouldnt come to you with their equipment obviously.

Or, you can see when and where they are doing a showcase. check the websites of the djs you are interested in. They usually post their showcase dates.

Thanks...were the videos you saw recentt? I find that brochures and albums and things are sometimes outdated. It's very annoying.

I think how you find a DJ is that you usually call up a few that you're interested in, ask questions about pricing, etc., then make an appointment for a showcase and go from there. Normally you would go to their studio. I've never heard of a DJ coming to see you.

Honestly - I loved what someone posted about a DJ they had just met. I contacted him - LOVED him from the first email. We met him at his home in Brooklyn & he gave us 5 cd's to show us how he blends his songs together. 2 were dance cd's, 2 were cocktail/ceremony music & 1 was rap/hip hop.

The minute we left we knew for sure he was our guy. NO CHEESE factor at all!!!!

DJ Gaza is INCREDIBLE!!! He was a club DJ for a long time and then got into weddings...he's incredible! He gave me a HUGE list of recent events & the comments I have gotten back about him are amazing....we sent out the check & signed contract today!!!

I didn't think it would be so out of blue for a DJ to go to you, especially in the City! It doesn't seem so hard w/ those wonderful little things called CDs!!! lol

yeah true but dont forget they can see ALOT more ppl at their offices...They would have clients from everywhere. People in the city use LI Dj's and vice versa. If a Dj in the city had to go out to LI to see a client think about the time it takes to get there then coming back...they'll waste at least an hour on the road when that hour if they were at the office they could've made another appointment and booked an extra party. Basically time is money and that would be inconvenient. Plus i know some girls who their bf's know about dj equipment and know about the tech side of dj'ing so they want to see the equipment in person

Our DJ offered to meet us anywhere in the city we wanted....but we opted to meet at his home, since we live in Jersey & were traveling to NY at the time...

We both live in the City which is what prompted my friend's question. We can have everything delivered to our homes at the drop of a hat...so she figured why not DJs too!

If someone is willing to meet me in the City and give me a few CDs to get a sense of them, I would do that first then make a trip all the way out the LI, especially if I wind up not liking them at the end of the day.

I don't own a car so it's more difficult to meet w/ the vendors. I'm all about making the planning process as easy as possible and it doesn't hurt to ask.
