How far behind am I?

How far behind am I?

Okay so I have been up most of the night, trying to get some wedding stuff done. I am starting to panic because I started looking for invites and stuff and some of you girls who are getting married months after me already have pics of your invites. I'm getting married in July. Am I very behind? How long does it take to get invites? How far in advance should they go out?

I have so much stuff that still needs to be done for the wedding. As a matter of fact, the only things that are done is my dress and the ceremony and reception site. Other than that, I have nothing else done. I was looking at my date twins and they have everything booked already.

People at work have been joking that maybe I haven't done any planning because I don't really want to get married. That, of course, isn't the case. I just am terribly indecisive and am always worried that I am not making the right decision. I have booked and then canceled with two different photographers (definitely a good thing) but I have no photographer, dj, limo, florist never mind the 'little' things like hair and makeup, which I am amazed that some people have booked so far in advance. I guess I am a little overwhelmed by how much work it is to plan a wedding. I feel like I don't know what it is that I am supposed to know to be able to do this successfully.

On top of everything else, my FIL are just making everything more difficult. They are very attached to DH, especially FMIL, and is none too happy about the upcoming nuptials.

If anyone has any tips, recommendations, words of wisdom that they would like to share, they would be greatly appreciated

Thanks ladies!

Hi there,

People plan weddings in less than 6 months, you are totally fine!!! It just depends on your personal preference. I find there is always this pressure to book but there are plenty of amazing vendors out there. Don't worry your wedding will be beautiful b/c you made it that way just trust yourself.

FIL are FIL, luckily mine are super excited and my FMIL goes by the saying 'shut up and wear beige.' She offers ideas but I don't have to take them. Just smile and say thank you!

hello date twin

keep in mind that lots of girls book things way in advance, but that doesn't mean you're behind. At the 7 month mark, i'd say you should have chosen your gown and be well on your way with booking major vendors (music, reception hall, ceremony, flowers, photog, limos), but you don't need to look at invites for another couple of months. check out some of the wedding planning calendars out there, which will help keep you on schedule. don't make yourself crazy; just make steady progress. Re: How far behind am I?

try not to stress! i know it's hard when the timing is short - my whole engagement will be 10 months all in all, but it can be done! in july, 7 months before my wedding, all i had done was the RH, dress and church. that's basically the same as you! and i got everything done in time!

we booked the photographer in august.

i ordered my invitations in september- they have to go out 8 weeks before the wedding and response date is 4 weeks before.

i booked a florist in october. and we only booked the limos a few weeks ago.

i did my hair/makeup trial in october.

granted, i my wedding is in the winter (12 days away!!), so i'm sure more vendors were available. in any event, remember that just because a particular vendor isn't on this site, doesn't mean they aren't any good. in fact, i haven't used one vendor on this site! i'm perfectly happy with the local vendors i chose!!

i hope this helps a little.

Thank you so much ladies. I am sure it will all turn out okay. I guess I want it to be amazing and I think I've been watching too many episodes of Platinum Weddings

No worries you are fine! I would try to book a photographer and DJ soon though. Just so you can get one you are happy with! As for invites, we got ours and they were ready in a week! So don't panic. You are fine!!

I am getting married a week before you and I don't have invitations yet either. I don't have hair and makeup either. I have most of the big things done. But still need to book limos, and an officiant. But it will all come together. I don't think you should stress so much!

Don't worry about it. My wedding is three months from today, and I have only a bit more than you. The only issue is that you're getting married in the summer, so you should get on photog and music.

I looked for a photog for months, and, for my taste, the best around was Mariann from Blue Daisy. Then Yun Gen Yang (yangphoto), and Angelica Glass. I couldn't afford any of them, but if you can, they are the best. I just love the photography style. Some people may not, but I just thought they were very talented and unique.

Other less expensive great ones are Thomas Paul, Infinite Images, and Duet. I went with Duet.

As for DJ, I went with Tommy's Tunes. I thought their lighting setup was far better than a lot of other ones I saw, and they worked with me on price. Very inexpensive is FM Entertainment, and people seem to be very happy with their work. Starlight Express is more expensive, but people who use them seem to love them too.

For flowers, I'm using The Little Flower Shop in Lindenhurst. They are awesome. However, Burton's is very popular here.

For Makeup and hair, M I a from the ************* is probably the most popular on this board. However, she was booked for my day. I have read only one or two bad reviews of her. She is not a vendor here, but one of the girls using her can surely give it to you, or I'm sure you can geet her at b r i d a l l o u ng e.com, or something.

I'm using Jacqueline Nicole for makeup, and I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH HER. She is my favorite vendor, and is just unbelievably talented. Love her.

Hair- Stacy Pitt, Denise Venti, Roseanna Amador. Those are some names I've seen people happy with in reviews.

As for invites, some of the ladies here are so impressive, they make me feel horrible. A lot of DIY, letterpress, stuff like that. I ordered mine from rexcraft.com, and they come in a week. I love them.

For an officiant, if you'renot getting married in a church, everyone loves Rev. April Gismondi and Rev. Deb Viola. I'm using Rev. Laura Tria, and I love her.

That's all I have for now- I've done a lot of legwork on these, and thought maybe I could save you some time. Good luck!! I hope this helps.

Thanks ladies!

you can send invites about 6-8 weeks before the wedding. SOme invites you can get in a week, others do take 4-6 weeks so you still have some time dont worry.

The reason some girls have booked hair and make up so far in advance is bc if they really want a particular make up arist and hair vendor they book up quickly so to guarantee they get them they do this. Some girls have tried booking some a year before and they were booked. But if you dont have anyone in particular you have to have at the moment then you are fine, just book trials and pick whomever you like best. I booked this a year in advance bc i wanted someone in particular.

I would look into the major vendors soon such as photographer and dj since they book up pretty quickly and far in advance. Then after you can just do limo's and florist and all the small stuff.

Dont get overwhelmed, youre probably just looking at it as a whole. Put think of it all one thing at a time, write down a to do list and one week say youll look at photographers, the week after dj, then limo's, florist and so on. Once you see it on paper when you will do everything and how it will all be done in time then it will make you feel better.

if you start looking at what everyone else is getting done on this site, you'll drive yourself absolutely nuts. Work at your own pace... it'll all get done bc it HAS to... book the major stuff asap... and worry about the little things later on... invites can be bought from a website and sent to you in a matter of days so dont worry about that so much...

I feel the same as you...I am getting marrid the day before you and It makes me nervous that people getting marrieda year after me are already planned!! but I think we will be ok and that everything will work out.
I am doing for bridesmaid dresses tomorrow and hopefully once that is done....other things will begin rolling.

One thing at a time!!!

Re: How far behind am I?

I agree with all of the girls on here-work at your own pace..

Have you went on & registered at theknot.com?? That website is really helpful and has month month countdowns of tasks to complete at a very reasonable pace.
When I first joined LIW I too felt like 'AHHHHH I'm so behind!' but looking at the knot's countdown definitely made me feel better.

Just book your majors (photo, music) so that you get one of your top pics.

As for invites, favors, menus, and all those little things-we haven't done any of that either, so don't stress too much! And hair & makeup trials TRULY don't have to be until way way closer to the wedding-unless you want someone who books that far in advance (like an LIW vendor).
Good luck and keep us posted!

I feel the same as you. But we have plenty of time. I still have to order invites, bridesmaids dresses, favors, flowers etc...I could go on and on!

I would start with DJ the photo and video. I am on a very strict budget. I strongly recommend my photo NickG's photography. He is excellent. Great prices and wonderful to talk to. He listens and will do whatever you ask. My videographer is Mark from Skidmark productions. Nick recommended him. I met with him and liked him. His prices are also very reasonable. My DJ is After Hours with Phil. He is so much fun and will work with you!!

Good Luck. Take a deep breath and relax. You can do this. If I can...you can HTH!

Re: How far behind am I?

Thank you so much ladies. On a positive note, we just found out that we are going to be able to get our deposit back from the photographer and not have to fight with him about it. Now begins the search for another one. I, unfortunately, fell in love with Blue Daisy but she is already booked on my day. I am pretty picky when it comes to the photography. Everything else, I really don't care too much. Hopefully I will be able to find someone great who is available for my day. Thank you to all of you who have shared your recommendations for vendors.

You ladies rock!
