Hey girls! So I fell in love with a dress last night at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. It's a fitted trumpet style. I've recently lost about twenty pounds and would like to lose at least another twenty, maybe more.
The consultant who helped me said they could always take a dress down two sizes (and I think roughly 1 size = 10 pounds). I love the dress and want to order it, but do you think I should wait a few more months so maybe it'll be a more accurate size? My wedding is not until next August.
Any input or anyone with experience with sizing dresses down are very appreciated!

It's easiest for them to size it down 2 sizes, however, I purchased my gown as a sample dress since they were discontinuing the line and I was able to get it for half price. It's a size 10 and I'm a size 2/4 and before I said yes to it, they had the seamstress come in to make sure she'd be able to do it. We then asked the same woman who has altered all of our formal gowns and she said she could do it also. A lot of people say that it's best to get it within 2 sizes of what you actually are but from my experience so far I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm not so sure how many sizes down a dress could be taken in. But with your wedding still being over a year away I would say you should wait a little longer before you order. Talk to the bridal salon to make sure the dress won't be discontinued anytime soon and to find out how long the dress would take to come in when it actually is ordered so you can know more or less when you should order the dres by. Congrats on the weight loss btw!

I've always heard it can be taken down 2 easily, possibly more depending on the material. But I've also been stalling since I've lost 20 and hoping to lose more..I want to wait until I'm not too far away so I can get the best/most accurate size. I say wait a little if you can. If not, don't worry It shouldn't be a problem.

i've heard they can take it down 3 sizes i would wait a month or 2 , you have time!

I used to work at david's bridal and we always said a dress can easily be taken down two sizes, depending on the dress, say you have a lot of beading or a design on it, you would obviously losing some of that when you take it in. Another option is to add a corset to the dress, that gives you even more wiggle room!

I got my dress at BR in Mass. If you are planning on loosing my weight, I would def. wait to order your dress. I ordered my dress in Oct 29, 2012 and it was in April 15th 2013 so you have plenty of time. I actually have to have mine taken in since I lost a few pounds. Its a natural waist ball gown with a corset back so I have room to work with.

I bought my dress from BR Massapequa when I weighed 165 pounds, they ordered me a size 16. I'm now at 139 pounds, and my dress just came in - it's definitely too big, but alterations aren't going to be a problem. I still have 10 pounds to lose. When you order the dress, don't let them talk you into a dress that's ridiculously big - they tried to convince me to buy a size 18, I fit into the sample size 10!
If you have the time to wait, then go for it. Just make sure they don't discontinue the dress!
