How far in advance do you need to order your dress. I am hearing so many different things

depends on the designer. mine only took 2 months to come in.

I think it depends on where you go. You want to make sure you have time for alterations (if needed) and all that stuff too. I ordered my dress in February and got it a few weeks later (from David's Bridal). I'm not sure how long an actual bridal shop takes...I got my Davids Dress in about three weeks, if you're looking for speed.

Depends on the designer....and where you order.
My dress came in, in 2 months & where I ordered said a lot of stores WAIT to place the order. I know of someone that ordered the same dress as me from a different store & her dress took almost 6 months to 'come in'

See...the other day someone told me that I have to order my dress 18 months in advance....my head is already spinning ha ha ha

I wanted to start looking ASAP so I ended up ordering mine 10 months in advance but I wouldnt suggest waiting any longer than 6 months.

We got engaged on Christmas and I ordered my dress mid January. It will be in the beginning of May. So mine will be only about 3 and a half months.

It depends on the designer...I am ordering mine within the next 2 weeks or so.....they told me my designer right now is on a 6 month turn around time.

i got mine at kleinfelds and they order it to be delivered about 2 months before your wedding date. so if you go there for your dress and want it sooner, you have to lie about your wedding date so it arrives earlier.

Each designer is different - some like Eve of Milady take 10-12 months, others like David's Bridal take @ 2 months. A good rule of thumb is to make sure you order your dress no less than 6 months before your wedding.

That's insane!!!!!! 6 -8 months is PLENTY of time!!!!

yeah it really depends on a number of the things. my dress is going to take 4 months!

Thanks everyone......any advice helps!!! Can anyone recommend bridal stores where they had a positive experience. I am not sure what kind of dress I am looking for yet....so I am just going to start searching out places.

I think it depends on the place, I am about to order mine, I like to plan ahead . One my bridesmaids whose getting married this September just ordered hers two weeks ago, so it really depends on where you go.
