How far in advance?

How far in advance?

Hi all-
I'm curious how far in advance everyone books their makeup/hair people? I'm getting married in December, and I have no idea when to start booking trials...thanks in advance! :)

I guess it depends

I am going to the same girl in the same salon I've been going to for years (I posted that info on Symetrix down below), so once she knew I was getting married, she mentally saved my date... I went for a trial in February, and booked her in the book, so to speak, 6 weeks before. I'm getting married in 3 weeks!!

If you are going to someone you don't regularly go to, like someone who's business is only wedding hair and make-up, I think you should do a trial once you have your veil and/or tiara, and then book once you know you want her. It's never too early in the wedding business.

How far in advance?

I am getting married on Saturday and when I was looking for hair/makeup, I asked several artists how far they book in advance - some book 4-6 months, others 4-8 months. The artist I am using, Marie from Loving Color, books 8 months in advance. Because my makeup was so crucial, I wanted to be assured I had someone excellent - so I booked her far in advance. Good luck to you!

I'm a big advocate of Booking early .... plus

it took me 4 hairstylists to finally find my hairsytlist for the wedding. 2 makeup artists. Hey, I think of it this way - you have to be happy and may need a few trials to find your style, plus what settle, if someone you like is already booked on your date (from someone like me)! :-)
Good Luck!

WOW!

I had no clue that I would have to book 4-8 months in advance. It is six months before my wedding and I haven't thought about it. I am not even sure who to go to..yikes! I was planning to start looking for my veil and headpiece in the next couple of weeks...I guess I will start looking in my mom's neighborhood for hair stylist and make up people as well.

Thanks for your input....

Anyone know a good make up person in Howard Beach/Ozone Park, Queens?

Booking early is good, but...

Make sure the actual person you are booking has your name and phone number to contact you directly if something should come up.

Last year, I went for my hair trial in May for my September wedding. As many of you already know, I booked Kristen .. only she was with another salon back then. Luckily Kristen had taken my name, number and wedding date, because about a month before the wedding, she switched salons ... going to Enchante, where she is now.

Thank goodness she had my information, and I`m so grateful she called, because the old salon NEVER did. Could you imagine if we had gone there the day of the wedding to find out they threw us with someone else??

That old salon had even made booking the appointment extremely difficult, making me wait a couple of months before even putting it in the book, the whole time leading me to believe it would be going in 'next week.' Had I not liked the work Kristen did so much, I probably wouldn`t have kept fighting with them to put my appointment in their book.

chmlengr...

1. How are the prices for Symetrix, being that I live in Long Beach...

2. I cant believe you are getting married in 3 weeks. It really feels like just yesterday that you helped me so much when deciding on booking Stewart Manor back in July (remember through UW, and we have friends thru friends in Carle Place)...crazy how time flies. All the best to you - I'll be thinking of you thru all the last minute planning!! How's it all going??
