how far in advance should i start looking for my dress?

i was in the 2005 thread and i noticed many people have started looking or have already ordered their dresses. i was going to wait until the summer before( a year before the wedding) but is that enough time to look, order and get fitted.

It's never too early to shop for a dress...the summer before is enough time - most stores will say that ordering a year in advance is perfect.

The downside to waiting is that if you're looking now and see something that you love, there is a chance that it could be discontinued by the time you're ready to buy.

But like I said, it's NEVER to early to shop!

I tried on 60 dresses over the course of 4 mos. - b/c I'm picky and apparently, so is my shape - and I just bought my dress last week.

If you wait until the winter, you'll see the new spring line for next year which you may want to see since you're marrying in the summer. If you're anxious to start looking and if you find something you LOVE, ask the store to call you if the dress is going to be discontinued...that way your bases are covered - and you could still look come winter, for more ideas.

im not really anxious, im just worried that i wont have enough time once i find my dress to order and have it fitted if i wait until a year before.

For the most part, you will have enough time to order & have your 3/4 fittings. There are a few designers that require 8 months or more just to MAKE the dress - something to consider.

But on average, ORDERING your dress 1 year in advance is more than fine...

I think there is nothing wrong with going to the stores and getting an idea of what you like. Do remember it takes 7 months to come in. So you have to know yourself and how long it will take you to decide. Good Luck!
