have to block the hotel rooms ?? I have NO clue how many i'm going to need so i've been putting it off

i feel your pain... This is so hard for me to decide on... Some people need just one night and some need two or more... It is a major headache. Most hotels told me I needed to do it soon for my july 1st wedding... but mine is a holiday weekend and the location is out east. So i guess that the weekend will book up faster.
I plan on booking it within the next month or two.

I'm blocking at the Marriott. Their process is: you block a certain amount of rooms, any rooms not booked within 1 month will go back into circulation. I have an idea how many that I need and then I asked my Mom and FMIL to give me an idea about that they thought. I'm blocking more that what I think that I need, just to be sure that I have enough.
I was also told that I didn't need to do this until January and my wedding is 4/23.

we blocked our rooms almost a yr in advance... we had to block off a lot... I think we had 10 rooms blocked for friday and then 40 for saturday and 40 for sunday... we are having our wedding on a sunday... we had to make sure 25% of the blocked roooms were booked or else we would have been charged... I thought that was insane but we met the 25% w/o a problem.. each hotel is different... call them to find out...

i am getting married the same weekend as you and went to block the hotels last month..
when i went to do that i was told that there is a major national youth soccer tournament that weekend (and every memorial day weekend - dumb me for not knowing it) and that a lot of hotels were booked solid and/or not accepting blocked hotel rooms..
the huntington hilton had nothing at all - i was able to block some rooms at the melville marriott ---- i guess it depends what area you are needing the hotel rooms in.
if they are in nassau and western suffolk though i would jump on it rigth away though
