If we are getting married in June of 2005 and want to move into a house either righ after or right before. When should we start looking. Also, how far in advance do you apply for the mortgage?

Re: How far in advance to start looking
It took us 1 year to find a house. Start looking now to get a better idea of what you want, and how much you want to spend. If I looked earlier, I would have been having a cheaper wedding, that's for sure!

Re: How far in advance to start looking
i'd start looking around at least to get an idea of what's out there and what you can afford. it might take a while to find something you like and then the time from when you make an offer to closing can be a few months as well.
we didn't actually apply for a mortgage until after we were in contract, but it is a good idea to get pre-approved to see how much of a mortgage you will be able to get. it also helps a lot to be pre-approved for a mortgage when you go to make an offer

if you can afford to buy now, start looking now, it will take time to find the right one, might be the first house or it might take months of looking and bidding...

Re: How far in advance to start looking
It took us a year, but some people find a house right away. Start looking now like everyone else said, and get an idea of what's out there in your price range. We had very specific needs,so it took a while, but if you don't it might go faster. Cant hurt to look! Apply for a pre- approval now also. It can always be renewed and you'll have a better idea of your situation.
