Hi everyone, I am new to this site and I see that you are all getting married this May. I just got engaged on Valentines Day this year, we want to do a May 2005 wedding, we were told we really need to start looking soon for a May wedding, is this true? Should we be looking for a place now, does May really pack up at the reception halls?

Congrats! and welcome you should probably start looking. We booked our hall a year and a half before the wedding, and dates were already filling up.

We didn't book our reception site until August, so nine months prior.

I wasnt sure everyone is telling me to look, and there are just so many places, i guess its just a little overwhelming when you first start, you realize just how much there is to do and how many places you have to choose from...the only thing I know is that it will be in Suffolk County

I think you should, especially if you want particular vendors.
I got engaged Nov. 2002. Picked our date and started planning in Jan. 2003.

I had a date in mind, the Hall was available, but the church wasn't (Communions, May is a busy month).
I went to the Hall and found out the dates that were available. Then I went to the church and from there I picked a date.
*Note if you go to the Hall first, DON'T tell the Church you went to the Hall first. The Church feels you should go to them first, since its a sacarament, etc... Its fine if you do, do that - just don't tell them

I would definately start looking around now! We booked our hall 1 year and 4 months ahead, and the days in may were very scarce! (sp?)@

Have a couple of dates...you may end up switching...I did...twice! Are you getting married at the reception hall? If not, then you also have to make sure your ceremony site is available.
