How far is too far?

How far is too far?

So Im from Western Nassau, and all of my friends and family are here too. But I really like a few RH's further out on the island, which would equate to about an hour to an hour and a half drive for my 'local' guests. FH's family is from upstate, so they will have to travel no matter what, but do you think it would be rude to ask the local people to drive that far? I also don't want to make the 'local' people have to get hotel rooms and pay extra, but I also don't want people to not drink and have a good time because they have to drive so far. Would you girls just cross those places off the list from the get go, or should I actually consider asking people to travel that far?

Sorry so long and TIA!!

I think that would be too long of a drive for your local guests! Ask yourself if you would you want to drive that far for a wedding... Fh & I hardly have any fam on the island, but knew we wanted to do it on LI so we picked a RH that was under the 30 mile mark from us (bronx)

Yes, regardless some people will have to travel far... thats always a given, but if it was up to me, I would try to keep it a lil closer for a majority of the guests

How far are you talking? I recently went to a wedding where the majority of people were from Western Nassau and the wedding was at the Thatched Cottage which I believe was in Centerport. I thought it was going to be a pain to drive from the south shore to the north shore heading east on a friday in traffic, but it really wasnt that bad. We made some excellent time and I didnt hear anyone else complaining about it either.

It would be from Lynbrook out to the Riverhead area....some on the north shore...so from south shore western nassau to north shore eastern suffolk...I just haven't found too many that I really like closer to home yet but I don't want to inconvenience anyone either....thanks for the opinions girls!

I actually have the same problem. I live in BK but i loved some places in LI. I'm still undecided wether or not i'll book a LI hall because that would mean all my guests would have to drive for around 45min. Which is still not bad, but then i feel like they wouldn't want to drink and would constatnly be worrying about getting home. If i was doing it LI, i was considering renting out one a bus or something for my guests. But i dunno. I think that if you do it far, you should be prepared for some No's.

I live about an hour/hour and a half from my RH. Although, my family does live closer to it. The people that want to be there will be there. I haven't heard of anyone complain about having to drive far for a wedding. Someone once told me that your wedding is the one day that you can inconvenience people.

I second this... I live an hour from my hall.... you need to be happy... if your guests cant make bc of the distance... im sorry to say but it's thier loss... Maybe you want to speak to some of them and get thier feelings on the topic... but more or less you have to do whats going to make you happy.

Honestly.... I didn't even consider my guests when I picked my RH...it is a little far....for some guests they will be driving an hour to an hour and a half, but I am in love with my RH and if driving was the issue and they couldn't make it, then I dont want them there....I sound a little bridezilla but really it is your wedding day and if guests are going to complain about the amount of time they have to drive , well just suck it up!!!

There are some really beautiful places that just the location is breathtaking. Sometimes is gives the feeling of being someplace completely different. Thatched Cottage isn't so far out east. I recently been to a wedding there and it is breathtaking! Another place I was considering is Vineyard Caterers. I live in Suffolk and that would have been a drive for me. If it's a place you absolutely love I don't see the problem.

Hmmm... I still consider nassau part of Long Island. I looked at Nassau and Suffolk locations. I think though, because you grow up going to a lot of the same halls over and over again so you want something different. I've been to a few suffolk locations for functions, banquets and prom so maybe that was the appeal. But I looked further east in suffolk as well.

Thats exactly it...I've been to so many weddings, christenings, communions, bar/bat mitzvahs around nassau that I just wanted something different! A lot of the halls in my area are beautiful but just not what we were looking for. Suffolk seems to have so much more in terms of what we like
