How ignorant can people be - re: Mepham High School

I am sure you have all heard about what went on at the football camp with a few of the players. If you have not, long story short is a few players, I think 3, sodomized 3 other players. At this point we are waiting to find out if these criminals will be tried as adults.

IN THE MEANTIME: I saw last night on News 12 that a group that calling themselves the Westboro Baptist Church from Kansas is planning to picket the school on Monday morning saying that the school is a breeding ground for gays. I am asking anyone who can show up to go against this group.
A- sodomy (rape) is not a gay crime, and
B- Who do these people think they are, if there are some gay students at Mepham how is this going to make them feel.

If you want to see what this group is all about, and feel like throwing up, you can search their website through their name (I will not post it for them). To say they are anti-gay is mild, they hate gays.

They will be in front of Mepham on Monday 10/27/03 from 7:00 - 7:35 - 2401 Camp Ave, N. Bellmore.

Whoever can attend to show these people that their hatred is not welcome here, please be there.

This is pretty horrible. It really does show the ignorance of these people. This has not one thing to do with being gay or not being gay.

I am sure that they expect to find themselves on TV..imagine them making the local news in NY and maybe even some of the national stations. This is how they elevate their platform and let other people who feel as they do know they have support and of course send them money. I find it distressing that they are hiding under the guise of a church. Totally revolting!!!!

This reminds me of the Sachem Quality of Life people who imported a known racist and hate-monger to stir up the local people with regard to day laborers. They got their publicity; TV, newspapers, etc. and they got their message out there so that others could join their group and his and continue the cycle of racism.

I think that America is a wonderful country because we are allowed to say what we feel, but I truly hope that people turn out for this and let these folks know that their 'help' is neither welcomed nor accepted!!

Absolutely disgusting. Is this the same group that protested Matthew Shepard's funeral? Or is this another bunch of ignorant, hateful, disgusting 'people'?

Ugh. I'd go to the website, but I've had enough with ignorance lately. So sad...so very sad.

The worst was seeing little children - 6y/o?? - protesting Shepard's funeral.

there is no limit to the depths of some people's ignorance...

People get so caught up in the sex aspect that they fail to pay any attention to the horrific violence that occured. Its the violence that is the crime, not the homosexual connotations attached to it. Are these boys even gay at all? or are they just animals?

Be careful around these groups, stupidity can be contagious.

Not sure how you meant this - but being gay doesn't mean you go out and sodomize (RAPE) people. And last I checked, animals don't do that either.

Rape is about control & humiliation - it has nothing to do with sexual preference - and very little to do with sex, imo.

I see what I said was vague, but you said exactly what I meant. I meant to suggest there was no relevance to whether they are gay or not.

Hmmm, let me see then, getting broomsticks,golf balls, and pine cones stuck up your butt can make you gay? Are these people for real I wish I could join you but I can't with a newborn. People like this make me sick.

They had a really great movie on HBO based on a play about the Matthew Sheppard case. I wish I could remeber the name of it it was really good.

Those protestors make me want to puke. I didn't know that there were people protesting at Matt Shepard's funeral. I'm sick to my stomach thinking about it.

Ah, ignorance.

I don’t know how I feel about some Baptist folks coming all the way from Kansas to picket a school ‘breeding’ gays. I would rather pay to go out and buy lots of t-shirts for the kids saying “I may or may not be gay, it’s none of your business” or “This school breeds education not sexual preferences” Both of those are stupid, but you get the point. Something positive yet quiet.

I, personally would not attend the school to ‘protest’ the protesters. It gives them the fuel they want. Attention to their so called ‘cause’. Kind of like when the KKK used to do parades in a small town near where I used to live. People stopped going to protest. They just closed their doors and pulled the blinds on the windows. People organized picnics away from that area. If you pay them no mind, they have nothing but their own ignorant acts.

This isn’t my rule of thumb for all issues, but this type, yes. If my kid went to school there, I’d have SOOOOOOO much fun with these idiots. But I’m evil minded. What can I say?

It is ridiculous. These so called protestors just want something to scream about. I think they feel better about themselves if they could attach anything to their so-called cause.
I think we all agree that the act had nothing to do with being gay. If that's the case, why not protest heterosexuals everytime a man rapes a woman. ???

Now THAT would be something I'd like to see in my lifetime. I'm real damn tired of women who were raped, being put on trial for their sexual 'exploits' from their PAST. I'm tired of men sitting around and not doing anything to make changes - to try to raise awareness and fight WITH women to change laws regarding rape.
