How important is personality?

How important is personality?

I just called a vendor that I am looking at - I've been researching and researching for a month and have compiled seven places that I am looking at for this service (photography). This is such an important thing to me and I want to get great results but have the ability to do what I want (like make my own albums).

So after hearing good things I call this vendor... and the person was awesome. Told me the truth, listened to my situation, gave me great ideas, told me how to do things myself.... And it's similar to what happened with choosing the Floral Terrace.

Sometimes, the inital contact, the personal attention and basically the 'listening' and 'give and take' makes me want to stop and book them right then and there. I haven't even been to any other photogs! But here I am like 'I want this one no matter what!' I seriously called FH and was like 'I found our photog'

For me, I think personality and quality are side by side. Even if a vendor has awesome products, if the service and customer support isn't there, then I don't want them.

What do you think? Would you still book a vendor if they weren't the greatest in 'personality'? I think I wouldn't!

I'm all about personality, especially in this situation. I almost equate a certain amount of 'personality' to their customer service skills. If I can't get along with them and feel as though they're treating my wedding as special - even if they're faking it - I don't think I'd go with them. Make sense?

i think its almost as important as the quality of their work. its definitely a dealbreaker if the person and i clash. you are going to be spending 10+ hours with this protographer. you need to like their personality :)

customer service is always first but with certain things like skill for a photographer would have to be an important thing.
I clicked with my photographer and luckly his skill is just as great.

but when i was looking at halls was the worst i did not even consider a hall if i was treated badly or 'faked laughed' by the bm. it was very interesting....

I think that personality is very important! I could not book someone who was rude, no matter how great their work is. I would rather keep searching. This happened to my sister. She looked at a reception hall for her wedding and loved it. She also loved the wedding coordinator. However, the manager was so rude and obnoxious they decided not to book there.

we booked both the photo and hall based on personality. yes we loved the hall and that played a part ( and the price), but we really hit it off with the bm at smcc and with the photo/video vendor. so, yes i have to say that if i was turned off by a vendor, i wouldn't give them my business. case in point, when we were looking at photographers were we very turned off by one vendor, he basically put the video on for us to watch and left the room, and came back when it wwas over with the price lists. it was kind of like 'don't call us, we'll call you.' and the next photog we saw, kind of gave us a bad impression. the work was beautiful, but they kind of put down the other photographers we saw, so we just politley smiled, and moved on. we went with the last photog b/c when we showed up 2 hours early, and still spend time with us. they build our package especially for us and never made us feel rushed or pressured. soory for the ramblings, but i think you get the idea.

To both me and FH it is very important. We booked both hall and photog partly based on personality. When they have a nice personality and yet are assertive it makes me feel like I am in good hands.

A good personality is defininitely a selling point. You want to be comfortable with the specific vendor.

Definetely plays a role......I felt like I was buying a used car not booking a wedding after dealing with some of these BM at various places. One BM tried to get us to book on the spot.....it was the second place we had looked at. That turned us both off. We might have considered this place but we dealt with a used car salesman.

IMO, personality is a big factor in booking vendors. You want to be comfortable with them and feel like they really understand what you want. Especially a vendor that you are spending a good part of your wedding day with.

I think Personality DEFINITELY is something to look at since you're going to be dealing with that person on the most important day of your life. Also remember that you're paying them A LOT of money! The only way I would book a vendor with bad personality is if I didn't have to see them that day like for the cake, the florist and the limo. THe photo and video people I have to deal with directly ALL day so that is out of the question!
