We gave all the major vendors deposits already..but now FI wants to clear out the account and pay off/give more money to a few of our vendors, photo, video, Hall. How did you handle this?

Just call them and let them know you are sending a check. Then write a letter with both your names, wedding date, amount of check and To-Date payments made. And send Check.

I wouldn't COMPLETELY pay off anyone until after you get your services/photos/video etc. Just as a safeguard.

I am only putting deposits down for now, and that's it. When it's a month or two before the wedding, then I'll make more payments. I have mailed checks in as deposits basically.

Since we are paying cash, I would just stop off the office to drop off the money.

I agree. At one point, FH and I thought it might be a good idea to pay our vendors off.. but then we thought about it. We just gave them the deposit the required and will pay them as our date comes closer.

We were just thinking of doing the same thing- paying a little more towards the balance..I just dont want to have to carry around so much cash when it comes to the final payment.
Would wedding insurance cover the additional payment if something happened?

You girls should think of it this way, why not keep it in your savings account and earn the interest it is free money the interest. Why should they earn more money on you while you could be earning it yourself.

This is what I was going to say.
We did pay our caterer two days early for the convenince of not having to do business on our wedding day. But everyone else we paid according to the schedule they set up.

veido and photo you pay a certain balance after the wedding. I use offical certified check so i have more proof (doesn't cost me extra since i work for a bank) if check gets lost or misplace, nobody else can cash it. make sure you get recipects for everything.

I am following the payment schedule each individual vendor has. I also go down to the office in person to give them the money, wether it be cash or check.....I want it on my contract with a signature as well at theirs. I am just a paranoid person!.

To each her own - if you have the money and want to pay more now, then that's great. If you feel like you should keep it in the bank and earn a small interest on it, good for you then. The orginal question was how does she send money to a vendor if she was going to make extra payments though ...

I wouldn't give them more money than they ask for. You never know what can happen. I'm not saying they aren't reputable - but they could go out of business or have an accident. Why deal with trying to get money back? I know you probably get minimal interest in the bank - but it is still interest on your money.
I am trying to pay everyone by credit card for the added insurance.
If you really want to pay them more money - why not just call them and tell them you are sending them the money- I would assume you would pay them acording to the terms of your contract (cash, check, credit card or whatever)

My question I guess was a little foggy..I wanted to know if everyone has been giving 'payments' to their vendors. Most of my vendors said like a few weeks or a month or whatever before the wedding to pay the balance, or in the photo case, 80% before the wedding, the rest after.
My FI wants to send them more money towards the balances and I was just wondering if most people did this.
I guess if would be nice to know as it comes closed that we don't owe EVERYONE a whole lot of money...
