how long was everyone engaged before they picked out a date?

I just got engaged this March 31. We knew we wanted a one year engagment and a wedding that was still in the 'off season' so we decided on March of next year. I went to the hall first and got a bunch of available dates and I picked one (they said we could change it at no cost if the Church was not available). 3 days later we went to the Church and luckily it was available. At that time we announced our 'official date' (which by the way is March 12, 2004). Our engagment party plans were well underway before we had an exact date. If you plan on having a longer engagment (like over a year away) I don't think it's mandatory that you pick a date right away. Discuss how long you'd like the engagment to be, what season, month, how much you have to save (if any) and that will give you a better idea of whether you should pick a date right away or just give your family and friends a 'tentative' date.

We were engaged about 1 month before we picked a day...we wanted to get 2002's prices for things.

I got engaged on November 23, 2002. We booked our hall in mid-December, but we basically knew what dates we were most interested in on November 24!

I would say about 2 months. We originally wanted to get married in Sept. 04 but being that I am a teacher I didn't want to postpone my HM, so then we decided on June 27th.

We got engaged in November, but even before that we knew we wanted october 2004. We didn't finalize the date until this February, so I guess that makes 3 months of being engaged before we set the date.

Well, we got engaged in August 2003 and picked the date pretty much the same day. We didn't officially have the exact date until we booked our wedding (it ended up that we booked our day 2 weeks later than the original date we had in mind). So, really 2 days, but officially 2 months.

We got engaged on January 24, and were thinking of doing the wedding summer of 2004. Then reality and prices came into play, and because of FH's job and the deal we got we decided on January. Booked the hall in March, so about a month.

I got engaged in June 2002 and we picked a date by Sept 2002. So I guess that would make it 3 months.

We got engaged 12/24/02 and we had our hall booked with a date within 3 weeks of that.

We both knew how long we wanted to be engaged for, and I knew we were going to be getting engaged, FH was trying to surprise me when he was going to give me the ring. We picked out the date around the time we got engaged, it was a, 'if we were to get enaged in the next few months what date would you want question...' We got engaged March 15, 2002, and picked out the catering hall on March 27, 2002, and the wedding is March 28, 2004.

I think I booked the church & hall the same week we got engaged. My sister had gotten married a year before me, so I did all the researching with her then. I knew the place...it was just a matter of getting a date. We were engaged on christmas eve and booked the wedding for the following November.

We were all set with the date, place and church within a month of getting engaged. It was between two private clubs where my family spends a lot of time, so we didn't have to look anywhere since we knew both places. (we were sooo lucky!!!)

We talked about dates even before we got engaged. When we got engaged we picked a date within a day or 2.

I was engaged on March 30, 2002 and didn't pick a definite date until October!

It actually took us awhile....we changed the date once....it took us a few months.
