DH's cousin got engaged on Valentines Day of this year.
The wedding will be in the first week of November of this year.
They are planning an engagement party for the first week of August.
They will also be having a bridal shower.
Isn't it a little odd to be having the engagement party 12 weeks before the wedding?

i have been to a few that were several months after the engagement i think its okay as long as it doesnt run so close to the wedding.

IMO, 12 weeks prior to the wedding is far too late for an engagement party. It runs too close to the shower, bachelor/ette parties, and the actual wedding. It's asking alot of your family and guests, IMO. I understand they had a short engagement, but they either should have had the engagement party within a month or two of becoming engaged, or not had one at all.

I think that's terribly rude!!! They should be as close to the actual engagement as possible (in relation to the length of the engagement).
I had a friend that did something similar and I felt like she had her hand in my pocket for over a year...
July engagement February e-party august shower sept b-party october wedding december housewarming and no joke, she got pg on new years eve so there was another round right after that. July shower september baby december - baby first christmas feb christening.
It was more then too much.

I don't know. This timeline just seems STRANGE to me...
FEB 04- engaged AUG 04- engagment party NOV 04- wedding
(plus, the bridal shower will be sometime in Sept or Oct of 04) Shouldn't the engagement party be near the ENGAGEMENT? It's going to be much closer to the actual wedding. (and be right on top of the bridal shower)

I'm not a fan of the engagement party as it is, so to have it so close to the wedding, to me, is tacky and looks like you are asking for gifts. JMHO.

Im not a big fan either. Cousin just got engaged, having a engagement party in his parents back yard next month, having a shower for FW in Nov and getting married in Dec. And they included their registry info in engagement invite = tacky. 3 parties in 5 months. Most of my fam thinks it is outrageous!

I got engaged in April 2004 and our engagement party was in June 2004! The wedding is in September 2005

Similar to me. I got engaged on May 26, 2002. Our engagement party was the last Sunday of July in 2002. We got married on May 30, 2004. So, we had a great big spread

I was engaged in December and we are having an engagement party in August. So that is far apart. It is more a party for our friends and families to meet each other. We didn't want to have it in the winter because I wanted to wait for nicer weather. But then our wedding isn't for over a year after that. I guess it just depends on the couple. But I think having parties like you said so close together is crazy.

I got engaged 4/03, party 10/03 wedding 9/05. THat's real close 12 weeks before to have all those parties.

Personally I think that's kinda late. We got engaged in 12/02 and had our engagement party in 2/03.

I am not a big fan of engagement parties any how IF someone is having a shower also... a bit much to ask --JMO but 12 weeks before and a shower is just TACKY..JMO
