I will be home for 12 weeks (6 paid, 6 unpaid). I may offer one day a week working from home during the 6 unpaid weeks just for the money.

I will be home for three months (2.5 months paid).

I always thought 12 weeks was standard, paid by disability. Is that not correct??

only 6 weeks for a v-birth, 8 weeks for a c-birth are paid by NYS disabilty, and that is a small check. it is at most $170 per week. some companies, mine included, have supplemental insurance to give you your full pay check. you can also use your vacation time in order to get more weeks paid. The Federal Family Leave Act allows you to take a total of 12 weeks (all unpaid unless you are getting some paid from the state disability for a birth) to care for a new child or sick family member.

At my company, you get 2 months paid, but can take upto 6 months altogether (4 unpaid). I was wondering if anyone else was thinking of taking this much time off. It seems to be the norm around here.

wow 6 months off all together??? even tho 4 are unpaid I would jump at that..as long as you can swing it financially and it doesnt jeopardize your postion...

I had about 11 weeks off...and that included 2 weeks of vacation time that I didnt take last year.

I would take the next 18 years off if I could but that is not feasible for us right now. If you can swing it you should take the time.

6 weeks seems so soon to go back to work. We'll have to put extra away now to cover that time.

I guess I (when the time comes) will take the extra time unpaid.

when the time comes I get to take 3 months (paid) and then I can add on vacation to that which I will so I will take 4 months paid in total.
and then hopefully resign

When the time comes I'll get 14 weeks paid time off and I can take another 4 weeks vacation time after that. I already know I won't be working after I have a child so hopefully I can work some sort of layoff plan into my maternity leave.

I'm taking 60 school days off, all paid. That works out (with weekends and holidays) to be 3.5 months.
