How long before they end to they usually cut the cake?

How long before they end to they usually cut the cake?

i know i dont want it before an hour before the end, but what is customary if you dont say anything?

im asking for photog timeline purposes...gettin stressed about this

You know, that's a good question...my hall has a complete timeline for us to follow and it never even occured to me to change anything. My photographer told me right before dessert hour.

I was talking to a videographer about this the other day and he said in NJ they typically cut the cake right away (after dinner) so the rest of the night is uninterrupted dancing. I guess here it usually happens much later in the night (by then I usually don't notice the time!!)? If your reception is later in the evening you could probably request it to be sooner.

you know, this is a good idea. i might ask them to do this because otherwise i would only have my photog until 10:30 and it ends a 11:30 so this is cutting it close and i would prefer cake cutting to be at 10:45 rather than at 10:30 or earlier. I just dont want people leaving that early, kwim. Thanks!!!

I've always thought it was right after the dinner. After the cake is cut, most of the older guests go home and the younger crowd stays to dance the night away!

Our RH told us they did it an hour before the end of the party

I don't even have one recollection of the cake cutting- when I saw it in my video everyone was asking me if at that point I felt like it was all ending and I was like- um NO! Didn't even occur to me!! haha!

My photographer has in my contract that he must stay through the cake cutting.

This is a really good question that you are asking because I wish we had thought that much about it sooner.

We actually had to hire our photographer for another hour of pictures, not just for the cake but if she only stayed through her contract she would have been leaving during the middle of dinner.

Anyway, our reception ends at 10 and our cake cutting is at 8:30. Our dinner ends at 7. Talk to your venue, they usually have a really good idea how to deal with this.
