How long did it take you to find your dream house.

Hello - I was just wondering how long it took everyone. I've been looking online and doing research for about a year. The FH and I have just been seriously looking for the past month. We happened to get the first house we bid on - it is just a verbal acceptance by an owner who is selling. Its a great area, but the house is a starter to say the least. Now I think we should look around a lot more before we pay a dime. I'm driving my FH nuts with my indecisiveness

I've been looking for what seems like forever. I've come to realize that there's no such thing as a 'perfect home' for me on LI. I do see a lot of potential lots of places though! You should definitely look around before you settle though.

It took us well over a year and a half of me looking full-time with 3 differemt realtors and on my own (most of the listings on Realtor.com had addresses, making it easier to do a 'drive-by' before contacting a realtor. I guess the listing agents caught on to the fact that many potential buyers were doing this and decided to stop listing the address on MLS.)

I think we made a total of 6 offers.

We learned fast that there's no such thing as the perfect house on Long Island, unless you've got millions. It was all about the potential for us (great location & property.)

aside from my online looking it took about 2months of actually going out to open houses and with realtors... it definately is the house and area we want.....

Honestly, I love my house, love it even more now that we are living in it and making it ours!
but its not my dream home! Like others have said basically we cant afford teh 700K+++++ that our dream would be!

We found our current home in about 6 months! 4 months of activly going to open houses and appts with our RE agents!

You can doubt yourself for the rest of your life wondering if there is a better house for you out there....weight any pros and cons this house has against what you want in a home. Consider if this is your starter home and as someone else said look at the homes potential!

I found my house pretty quick. We were casually looking by going to open houses for a couple months. (We weren't planning on seriously looking for a couple months- we were more just trying to find a neighborhood we loved.) Well we stumbled upon our house and we love dit and biod on it and it was accepted the next morning. We closed about 6 weeks later...it was all real quick....we were lucky.
