How long did you wait before your wedding to buy your dress?

How long did you wait before your wedding to buy your dress?
I heard that some dresses take 16-24 weeks to order. I am trying to lose weight ( who isn't) for the big day and I don't want to start looking for a dress until I lose some weight.
Please help!!!

I wanted to do the same thing.. then I went and looked, fell in love.. and I HAVE MY DRESS.. I've had it for 6 months.. I love it though.. I'm happy I got it.. I thought mine would take at least 3 months..a nd it only took 2 months.. I got mine at Davids bridal though, so they had it in the warehouse.. It all depends.. you should be fine like 6-7 months before the wedding..

I bought 2 dresses. My advice is don't buy the dress too early, try on alot of dresses and all different styles. Even styles you don't think you like. My second dress is a strapless, which I never in a million years thought I would get.

i just ordered my dress and it should only take about 3 weeks to come in. but i think that is an exception...

I ordred it 8 months before my wedding. It should take 4 months to come in, but my fitting is only 4-6 weeks before, so i have time to loose weight. they can always take it in.

I started looking in September to give myself enough time to make a decision - I ended up buying my dress the second day shopping

I went looking and fell inlove with one. I ordered it at the end of September and it came in in January. I know it's early, but I couldn't risk it being discontinued and I got it at a great price! :o)

I went looking... only because I felt like I was behind in that department of wedding planning and know alot of brides that searched and searched without finding anything.. and it made me nervous.. so I went out looking not expecting to find anything.. well the second bridal store.. third dress.. and it was the one! My mom insisted on buying it on the spot.. that was last week.. should be here in 2 to 3 mos

YOU are the SAME as me...I refuse to go looking because it will only depress me if I try on something that I feel looks bad simply due to the weight. My sister works in a bridal store and she said some dresses take 6-9 months to order, she gave me untill early june at the very latest to pick something out, so I'm waiting, at least I can drop a little weight and then if i lose more(hopefully) they can alter it...Godd luck!!!

I say you have time. If you are REALLY going to do it (lose weight, that is) then you can postpone dress shopping and it might work in your favor. I had wanted to lose weight before I began shopping too. But after changing my date, I lost time. But I think me not being happy with the way I looked had a lot to do with why it took me 3 months to find a gown. I felt like nothing looked good on me.
Anyway, I would say July-August is the latest you should order your gown. (Depending on the designer of course) And I would say start looking in May or earlier if you want.

I ordered mine about 9 months in advance to avoid any potential problems...they usually say 6 months for a dress to come in and most places order it bigger so there is room for weight loss etc...

I ordered mine 1 year in advance. I never thought I would buy what I did... Definitely try everything on though!

I ordered my gown in April 2003 for my Sept 2004 wedding.
