I heard on TV the average bra lasts 6 mos. to a year depending on how often it is worn and how it is washed (by hand, delicate, etc.). I have some MUCH older than that--how long do you keep yours? I noticed after a couple years of wear the elastic becomes more shot, but 6 mos. seems short to me...

it depends...I've had some for years, but its because i dont always wear the same ones.
How many times do you wear one before cleaning?

Re: How long do you keep your bras?
are you kidding? 6 months???? i have bras that are YEARS old that i absolutely love and will not part with until the underwire breaks out from underneath the fabric. AND i machine wash and dry all of my daily bras and undies. i don't have the time or patience to keep things 'delicate.'
i take better care of my fancy stuff and lingerie but daily stuff, no way!

Maybe it was all a conspiracy led by Victoria's Secret. I don't dry mine in the dryer, but I wash them in the washing machine all the time, and they definitely last longer than 6 mos.!

Re: How long do you keep your bras?
I've had a few of them FOREVER! It's so hard for me to find bras that fit well, so right now I only have 2 different styles in all different colors.

I also keep mine for *years*. Several years ago I got fitted and found out that I was wearing absolutely the wrong size, and so had to start my bra collection all over again. Turns out I'm a really weird size, which means that the only bras I can ever find that fit are uber-expensive - no way can I buy new ones every 6 mos!

Where did you get fitted? I think I may be wearing the total wrong size too... I think VS says they do it...

Re: How long do you keep your bras?
This post made me crack up - OK - I obviously keep them for way TOO LONG because I had one break on me a few months ago. The underwire just gave! Plus I gained weight and went up 2 cup sizes, so I relly should have bought new bras. Thanks for the motivation. Every 6 months it is now!

Re: How long do you keep your bras?
I got fitted for the first time in London. But there are definitely good places in NYC, too: Ripplu (45th & 5th), Town Shop (82nd & Bway), and BraTenders (49th & 9th??) are a few that I know of. I'd be careful about getting fitted at VS or Macy's (or any other big dept store), b/c they may not have your size and, if they don't, they won't necessarily tell you what size you are. It's worth it to go to one of the more 'fancy' places, find out your right size, then buy elsewhere (or just buy one bra there) if possible.

I keep bras for YEARS!
The only time I have to throw one out is if my dog gets it, and rips the strap off

Re: How long do you keep your bras?
This is a sticky subject for me. When I was much bigger DDD. I used to go to Georgettes for bras because I couldn't get the right fit in a department store. Fast forward, now I'm not as big (D) and I went up a band size due to weight gain so I went back to Georgettes to get the accurate sizing. They told me I was a DDD! I only gained 20 lbs, it couldn't have gone up that much! So I bought one bra and got depressed. Then I went out to the store and picked a size one up from the ones that were too tight and they were all great...they all fit and they were all D. I think sometimes they measure you to get you to buy bras.
So, back to the original question:
I buy six at one time if I can find the ones I like and I replace bras every year. I machine wash them and hang dry. You don't realize that they need to be replaced until the underwire is puncturing your lungs! I wear them tight so I'm sure the elastic stretches quickly for someone like me.

I have had bras for years. I think it depends on how much you wear them and how you maintain them.

I keep mine for about a year. They go in the washing machine but not the dryer.

Usually over a year or more. At least until they become totally unwearable...a good bra is expensive!

Re: How long do you keep your bras?
until the underwire pokes out at me an dsticks into my ribs....OUCH!!!! But I have so many that I can go over a month without wearing the same once twice, so I dont' think they wear out as quickly with me.....
