Do you keep statements for your bills for over a year? Two years? My files are so full, and I am wondering if I need to keep all of these statements?

Re: How long do you save bill statements?
I used to keep EVERYTHING ( I am talking down to receipts from ATM's). It has caused so much clutter. It is only recently that I am throwing things away. I used to save statements from at least a year.

Christy - I didnt know you wee supposed to save this either. My husband gets mad when I throw it out, but why do we have to keep it? Like the other post said, it creates more clutter. At least here.

Re: How long do you save bill statements?
Bank statements - 3 years
Credit card statements - as soon as the bill shows up on my bank statement and I know it's paid - I shred the statement itself. I can always get it online or via the bank if need be.
Same with phone/gas/cable statements.

I throw them out after they are paid. I never saw a need to keep them. Maybe I need to rethink this??

I think it's considered OK to toss utility and credit card statements once the check has cleared and payment is certain, though I keep mine longer than that. Just be sure to shred them so you're not assisting anyone with identity theft.

I shred them as they come. I do all my banking online, so if I need proof that something was paid I will get it from my bank. I hate paper. I just got my hubby in to that mode of shredding.
