i think that what i used to do is save the pay stubs until the next check...and then i would save the last one from december until after my taxes were done/had my W-2. you are supposed to save tax returns for 3 years....but FILs save ALL the bills, all the the receipts AND the returns....she has crates from way back when they got married...of course, FFIL is in accounting so it's par for the course...

I thought you were to supposed to save them for backup for retirement. In case of 'issues'. Not sure though!!!

I keep papers for 7 years (tax purposes)... I am a lunatic!!!

then i'm screwed and so is FH...we don't get a stub with each check...he gets direct deposit and i am semi-salaried, so i only got one stating what I was being 'charged' for...stinkin' FICA. heehee

i guess the real answer is keep them as long as you want!

hahaha

i'm not too worried about it...i am not the bread winner...and shockingly when i received that packet from the SSAdministration about my lifetime earnings thus far (by the way, my children could get like 800/month if i die right now.....so encouraging) was dead on!!! FFIL laughed because he said his is never right.

I keep 3 months of paystubs, 6 months of bank statements and brokerage, 2 quarterly 401(k) statements and 5 years tax returns.

As far as mortgage statements, credit card statements, and other bills-1 year.
