DH and I have an apt now , but whenever we go to my parents or in-laws, or even friend's places that have been married a few years, they seem so settled and prepared to entertain etc...
I feel like I am not prepared for this lol but how long do you think it takes to become settled? And how do you define being a good host/ hostess?

As far as the 'settled' part, I have no idea how long. I guess it depends on the person, or people. But how to be a good hostess has nothing to do with how wonderful your apartment looks, or how much you have decorated or not. It all comes down to how comefortable you make your guests feel. Aslong as no one feels cramped in by all your boxes, or rushed out because you have so much left to do, or anything like that, you should be fine. Good luck, and congrats on the apartment.

it's all about practice.... I've always been a big party thrower.. so it's not a big deal for me.. but just practice cooking and serving yourselfs, then invite a few friends over at a time, and gradually it will come naturally.

I think it all depends on the type of person. I can not rest until everything is in its place when I move. So I have everything away and decorated withine a week I'd say (I'm a pro now because I move alot lol).
My cousin on the other hand has been in her house for over a year and still hasn't hung up one picture or unpacked half her boxes.
Being a good hostess though doesn't matter on how your place is decorated or put together but on how comfortable you make your guests. : ).

Hmmmmnnnn....I've been in my house for over three years and I still don't consider myself 'settled'. There is still things left all over the place (in boxes) and rooms unfinished. Then again, we had a complete gutdown to 85% of the existing house. We'll get there. I'm better at organizing than my husband - you would swear he hasn't 'moved in' yet with all his crap still in boxes. And believe me, it's crap.

I've lived in my new home for about 6 months and still have yet to hang anything up. I figure by the time I get settled it will be time to move !!!

Oh boy! I think it takes a long time!!! DH and I have been living in our house for 2 months (1st time living together) and still not ready to have 'company'. I'm upset because I really want to have a little gtg once, but just feel too overwhelmed to do it!!!
It takes time, take it slow, your time will come to entertain!!

We've been in our new home for four months, and we are no where near being settled in.
We've been entertaining friends and family here since day one, though. As long as the company is good, there's plenty of food/drink and you're having fun...no one seems to notice that there's nothing on the walls and sawdust on the floor!
