ceremony starts at 2pm. reception starts at 6:30pm. full catholic nuptual mass.
please tell me what to expect!! i'm jewish, have never been to a church service before let alone a full mass, and i cant sit with FH because he's in the bridal party.
also, can i wear a strapless dress? the bride's dress is strapless and so are the BM dresses but I dont know if people are wearing shawls...

Usually a full mass lasts an hour.
Since there is time between the church and the reception, alot of people where something nice to church and then change in between for the reception. Yes you can wear a strapless dress, but you may want to bring a shawl. (could be airconditioned)
Unfortunately you cannot sit with FH. He will be on the alter and sitting with the other groomsman. The bridal party gets the first pew and then the parents followed by immediate family (people from brides side sit on the left, groom's side sits on the right) So you will be a few rows back.
Have fun!

you can wear whatever; people wear jeans to church now! sometimes people change but only if it's feasible.
full masses can be brutal (IMO) - usually an hour vs. a 20 minute ceremony. but if you know the bride and groom and since your FH is in the bridal party it should be nice. enjoy! hope it's not today - what crappy weather.

well said. there should be info in the program for u to follow along.
if uve been to a regular wedding ceremony at a church (or even a hall)...itll be sort of similar but add on about 15 min for the communion part(when the people go up u can just stay in your seat)....which is normal...not everyone gets up during the regular mass to receive communion.

i've never been to a wedding ceremony at a church before (or any ceremony at a church) -- FH mentioned osmething about holding your hands out if you're catholic and crossing your arms if you're not and some people stay seated.... but i'll probably just see what everyone else does

well there's the sign of the peace (is that what it's called??) where you shake each other's hands - that's no big deal, you can do that. when people go up for communion you can just sit back in your seat though; a lot of people don't go up.

your fh is correct...for the communion part u can walk up the aisle and when u get to the priest u can keep your arms crossed...the people that take communion kind of cup their hands...but its way easier to just stay in the pew and avoid it all together
ull be ok!!!!

Re: how long does a ceremony with full mass last? (and other Qs)
We had a full mass - it's really not that bad, probably about 20 minutes longer than just a ceremony depending on what the couple chooses to do.
I would plan on covering your shoulders if you can, some churches are very traditional but will make exceptions for the bride and bridal party.
I agree with not going up for communion, if you're not christian there's really no need and there's nothing wrong with staying in the pew - thats what I do when I'm not a catholic church.
