I went to a showcase last night and spoke with a vendor who told me that since gowns can take 4-6 months to come in, I should order 7 months in advance.
Was that a sales pitch or what? My friends who have already been through this process only had to wait 6 weeks or so before their dresses came in.

Honestly, it really depends on the dress. Certain designers are in high demand and it takes longer for dresses to come in. I heard Eve of Milady dresses have an 8-10 month wait.

All depends on the dress/ designer. I ordered my gown last April, and it came in 2 weeks ago...11 months. I know some brides who have gotten them in 5 months though.
ETA: Mine is an Amsale.

depends on the designer. I went to Macy's to try my Maggie Sottero first, and they told me they needed 7 months. I knew it was a line to get me to order right away.
I went to RK Bridal and had the same dress within 3 months.
Most of the time, I hink it is a line of crap to pressure you into ordering. There are some designers though, that very well may take that long.

i ordered a maggie sottero in june last year, and it came in at the beginning of january, so mine did take 7 months.

I got my gown at Carmela's Bridal Garden. I ordered a Jasmine Cutoure. The lady told me 6 months.

Thanks for the feedback. I will most likely not be going with a designer dress. So I really don't think it will take that long to come in... definitely not 6 months.

It really depends on the designer and the times when they make certain styles. Sometimes they cut certain styles more then others. SO the store is on the safe side they will tell you the amount of time that Maggie suggests telling there customers. Each designer has there own time allotment
like the eve of milady is definently a 10 month lead time.

I think that no matter what kind of dress you order, designer or not, if you have to order it, it may take a while to come in.

it just totally depends. My dress took the 6-7 months they said it would. My cousin ordered hers from David's they told her 3 months, it showed up in 3 weeks.

I ordered my dress in early September, and it's not due in until April (it's an Allure)....I always heard they told you a while but it was shorter, but not in my case!

I ordered mine in June, and it came in around late Sept...(my wedding was Nov 1, '03)
