To take pictures after the wedding ceremony? My FH and I are NOT going to be seeing each other before our wedding ceremony. We are planning to take pictures at the church for a bit and at the RH.... how long do you normally take pictures for after the ceremony? My photographer is Patken... I dunno if that helps LOL!!! We want to be able to make an appearance to our cocktail hr.

Re: How long does it take.....
It can take as long as you need...I think cumulatively, we took photos for about an hour after the ceremony (35 or so min immediately after the ceremony, then traveled to our RH, then took more formal portraits once there for about 20-25 min). We took some time in between dinner courses to go downstairs to the hotel lobby at Danfords and took some more posed fun shots for about 15 minutes. VERY glad we did that, b/c we were much more relaxed and had some very fun shots taken.

You can take as long as you need to; often pictures are taken after the ceremony at the church, then at their RH if they aren't stopping somewhere in between. At all of the weddings I've been in, we pretty much took photos up until just about when we were getting ready to be introduced at the reception.

I think it depends on -Your photogs (how many you have) -Your families.. are they easy to get done or are there going to be problems (my mom and FMIL were very demanding with what photos of the family they wanted taken) -How Big is the bridal party
I would say 2 hours should be ok.. however I missed my cocktail hour because of these issues. But my photog had already warned me that it might happen so I was ok with it.

it really depends on a lot. if you are into pictures and want to take a lot...if you have to travel between church and RH. if you have a lot of family to take pics with etc.
i'm using patken but we are seeing eachother before the ceremony. we told her we had 2 hours and she asked if its possible to get a little more time because thats what she prefers but if you dont have 2 hours im sure it will still be fine
these photographers are professionals and they will get the job done no matter what the time alotted is

It really can vary a lot. FH and I are taking pics before the ceremony...and we're starting 2.5 hours beforehand.

Hmmm.... well we will have about an hour and 1/2 before the reception starts... will that be enough time?? My FH says to have them take the pictures quickly and go to the cocktail hour... I want to make sure we have nice pictures!!!! I'm starting to worry if its enough time...

Did you take pics during your cocktail hour, or did you go to the cocktail hour?

no we didnt take any pics during CH. We even got to the RH about 30-45 mins before CH even started and were done with ALL our pics. We took most of our pics at a different location not our rh. Ceremony was in astoria and we took pics in LIC we went to 2 locations-gantry park and 5 points, and took pics there from 4 to a little after 6pm. Then drove from queens to LI and got to RH about 6:45-7pm and CH started at 7:30. We took a few pics at the RH outside but very few. We were able to go to the bridal suite and hang out for a bit before anything started

I asked my photographer how much time he needed to take our pictures. The only issue we ran into is that the RH wouldn't let us in the lobby to finish our pics because there was another wedding, so we had to do those during part of the reception. My biggest advice to any bride is get ALL your pics done before the reception starts so you don't miss part of YOUR PARTY!!

Ohhhh so what do you think about our timeline.... wedding ceremony 6:15pm.... so figure it'll be over at like 6:45pm right? Our Cocktail hour starts at 8:30pm (and our RH is about 15 minutes from the church). Do you think this is enough time?? I really hope its enough time because I want nice pictures, and I also want to spend some time at the Cocktail hour... what do you think?

yeah about 6:45 should be over, then receiving line takes just a few mins and then pics outside the church, should be driving away from church around 7pm or a little after. Are you taking all your pics at the RH? if so that gives you about an hour and a half or so and you can just go to CH a little late, it will be fine, lets say you go 15 mins late. You dont have to be there the moment it starts.
I had a huge gap so thats why we were able to go to 2 different locations in the complete opposite direction of my rh. I had ceremony at 2:30pm and CH started at 7:30pm.
Just tell your photographer about your timeline and see if its enough time for him. He knows exactly how long it takes him to get all the pics he needs before the reception since he does this all the time.
ETA: i saw your questions about JT. I didnt have trouble bc I DIDNT take pics at JT, all my pics were mostly at an outside location in LIC. When i got to JT it was only 30-45 mins before my CH so not like i was there hours before and there was another event going on. I didnt take ANY pics in the lobby. We took just a few outside and thats it. I also happened to be the only event that night so i didnt have a problem with any of that even if i had wanted to, but like i said, i didnt really take pics at JT.

i am sure they'll know what to do dont worry. Yeah you are getting to JT just about an hour before so they should allow you to take pics, i dont see a problem but talk to them to coordinate if there is another wedding going on at the same time. By the time i got to JT to tell you the truth i was just so swamped from picture taking. We went to 2 locations and out in the sun taking pics for over 2 hours, i climbed walls, i sat on the streets lol, and was just very tiring lol. So when we got to JT we were like ok a few pics outside and thats it we are done we dont want anymore. But the limo driver kept saying how he had champagne with the flutes for us to take pics and kept insisting and we felt bad and said ok a few pics like that and lets all just finish after this lol, i even felt bad for photo/video and said ok were done go and eat and relax for a bit. But otherwise yeah the pics inside are nice and i do like them.
