how long does changing your name take (including changing it at the DMV, and getting a new passport)?
FH and I have the wedding in August, our HM in september, and then a trip with his family in december ... will i have enough time to change my name (and get a new passport) between the HM and family trip?

I don't know. 1 options.
1. Don't legally change your name until after the trip in December.
2. Once all the name change documents are finished place a rush order on your passport cuz your getting into busy season.

Everyone told me to travel on maiden name. You don't want to chance it.

That's what I've heard too. Better safe than sorry. We're getting married in June and traveling in Sept. I'll probably have enough time, but I just might not chance it.
For you? I'd probably wait.

plus unless you go to city hall the following monday yourself to have them process the certificate you aren't legally married yet so you shouldnt be using FH's last name anyway (this is what the clerk said)

i have no idea how the process works ... i just meant any docs that i need to fill out / submit in order for me to get the new passport with new name (Social Security office? DMV? otherwise? and the Passport application obviously)

You can not change anything until you received the marriage certificate after your priest has submitted the marriage license. Once you have that, you can go to Social Security & then DMV. My co-worker did both in the same day.
As for your passport, check out this site click me. Sounds to me like you can send it in once you have an original marriage certificate.

i am getting married in june and going away in august so i booked the tickets in my maiden name and i am going to use my old DL w/ my maiden name on it when i get to the airport.. im thinking this is what i can do! but if u need a passport if u are going abroad i would wait to change it
