I have to get a BM dress for my friends wedding - she left it up to us to get a black floor length dress and i've left it to the last minute to go look at anything (got married myself, then the holidays, yada yada - i know i'm bad). i can't remember how long it takes if you order a dresss from a bridal salon - does anyone know?
Her wedding is in 9 weeks.
Should i stick to the retail dept. stores or do you think a bridal salon will be able to order something for me intime?

My BM dresses took about 3 months to come in. I think most BM dresses take 3-5 months to come in plus you need time for alterations. I'd just look in department stores unless you're willing to pay a rush fee at the salon.

That's cutting it close. It took my place about 7 weeks, and I've heard it's usually 6-8 on average. I'm the type of person that wouldn't want to risk it coming in on time or chance something going wrong, I'd just try shopping in a regular store at this point. Good luck!!

I actually cut it extremely close, I just ordered my BM's dresses, they are suppose to get here the first week of March, I had to do rush delivery (6 - 8 weeks). Some brides say they got their dresses within 3 - 4 weeks from David's Bridal.

They time them so that they come in around the date you need - they do this so they don't have a million dresses sitting around in storage. That's why it seems like it takes months to come in (usually). You can probably still get a dress at a salon, but they may charge you a little extra for rush shipping.
