How long for thank you notes?

I was debating this with a friend, who is also getting married.

What do you think the grace period is for thank you notes after a wedding? I personally think three months is the max one should wait. She says six. I just think if you can take the time to sign the back of a check, you can take the time to sign your names to thank you notes. You know no one is waiting six months to cash a check!

I read in an etiquette book once that some believe that you can send them up to a year. I can't even imagine waiting that long!! I am going to try and do them within a month of returning from the HM.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

I wrote mine out about 2 weeks after the wedding for guests that gave gifts, I'm not good at remembering to write thank you cards so I had to do them soon. It was just a regular thank you card no picture.

I just made my wedding thank yous with our pictures so I'm sending those out during the summer after I'm done with my classes.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

I've heard the 3 month rule as well.

Last summer I went to one wedding on August 2nd and another in late September... the late September wedding I got the thank you about 2 weeks after. The August wedding I got the thank you about a month ago. I honestly just figured they weren't sending any at that point. It was 6 months! Then again, better late than never. (The strange thing was that I got their 'we moved' announcement before their wedding thank you.)

Re: How long for thank you notes?

If the couple is waiting for their thank-yous from the photographer, it will most likely take at least 3 months but possibly more to receive them. I think 3-6 months is standard. I had mine out in about 3 1/2 months.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

I have heard 6 months at the most. I am about 4 months with out even picking out my Thank You photo yet. :( Ugh..I am so behind!!! I feel embarassed almost, but I just haven't had the time to sit down and pick a freaking picture out.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

IMO, 3 months max. For this reason, I purchased thank you cards and plan to write them out. I don't know how long my photographer will take and don't want to risk waiting for cards.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

My goal was to get my thank yous out before the sixth month mark, which I did.

Keep in mind, most people wait for their proofs to come back before choosing a photo for their thank yous. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to months after the wedding. I received my proofs about three months after my wedding and my thank yous took about 2-3 weeks to print after we chose the photo.

Etiquette wise, I heard that you have up until a year to get your thank yous out. I think six months is about as long as you should wait provided that you received your proofs in a timely manner.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

I'm going to try to send mine ASAP. People spend a lot of money to come to weddings and now a days finding that money is not always easy and sending them fast really says something about appreciating your guests.

Re: How long for thank you notes?

I agree with 6 months max. It takes time to get your proofs back and then choose the pic(s) you want to use...but after 6 mos I think some ppl will think that they aren't going to get a TY. One of my friends got married in August and we just rec'd her TY card last week....I was beginning to think we weren't going to get one!
