My destination changes daily.
Rebecca,
I thought you guys were going to Greece?
Donna, did you ever open up a can of worms!

LOL, you'll be sorry you asked after reading my saga.
Greece was our first choice. When I was looking at brochures, we found a terrific 12 day tour package. The prices we looked at were for 2004, and if you add spending $, it was pretty reasonable. The 2005 price for a lesser package was nearly DOUBLE the 04 price. Add spending $ to that (especially since the dollar is falling against the Euro), and it put Greece out of our budget.
We also looked at Bora Bora. I went nuts when I saw what it looked like. FH didn't want to go b/c we could afford no more than 7 days. He says two of those days are wasted traveling (the flight is about 15 hours I think), another two to recover from jet lag, since this place is literally half a world away from us. He eels like we only have three 'real' days there, and cannot justify spending 8k on three days. So Bora Bora is out.
Africa is out - FH is to afraid
Europe is out - too expensive
Australia or New Zealand - flight too long
Asia - flight too long, not enough beaches for FH
Where does that leave us?
Hawaii - flight is a little long, and i don't want to have to rent a car to get around
Caribbean - looking into this, esp, Bermuda. Two hours away from JFK, island is small, no need for cars. english is spoken, and the dollar is widely accepted. great beaches for FH and excursions for me.
Mexico - looking into this too
Central America- Found a really interesting eco resort in Nicaragua. Pro: inexpensive, flight not too long. Has interesting excursions for me, beaches for him. Con: I don't really want to take malaria pills or get vaccinations and this place doesn't have air conditioning.
South America: Looking into Argentina and Brazil. An acquaintance came back from Brazil and LOVED it, have to research more.
Another acquaintance raved about Argentina- Pros: super cheap, beaches, culture and nightlife. Just enough stuff to do. Cons: political unrest. I would hate to book this trip and find ourselves in an unsafe situation.
the search continues.
