Re: how long should my cocktail hour be
I voted for 1 hr... I think it might be too long for the wedding to be 6 1/2 hrs long.

I posted this same question on the newlywed board and they all agreed that even though it was inexpensive, I really didn't need the extra half hour.

Yeah go with 1 hour cocktail. What's the after party? if you had to extend anything I would say do an extra 30 min for the reception.

for the after party - we are having an irish singer (i hope) or jazz trio play -hang out have a cigar roller, and the chocalate fondue
i am irish - and like parties to go on for a long time

Re: how long should my cocktail hour be
the only way i would say an hour and a half would be if it started earlier in case some people got there sooner

Re: how long should my cocktail hour be
depends on how much seating you have. 1 1/2 hours is a lot to stand if you don't have cocktail hour seating for everyone. Then you have to think you might not want everyone too drunk for the reception.

Perhaps you might want to have 'snack' for guest who want to arrive early after the church but I say still with the 1 hour CH.

Re: how long should my cocktail hour be
If it costs the same, do 1.5 hours. CH often has the best food - the most choices. Plus it will give you more leavay for people to travel.
I'm all for long wedding too.
My parents said their wedding was 2 days!

I voted 1.5, but only do it if it's free.

The longer the wedding lasts - the better...as long as it's not too expensive for that half hour.... I vote 1 1/2 hr.....

I voted 1 hour...I think if you extend the CH longer, you might not get as many people at the after party that you want (if they get too drunk too early, they might leave sooner). JMO, but I do think 1.5 hours would be nice for you- for pics, and having more of an opp to mingle without missing your reception going table to table. I'm no help

Re: how long should my cocktail hour be
We were contemplating 1.5 hours for the CH. We are staying with 1 hour because we talked to alot of people and they said that they all ate too much and didn't enjoy the dinner as much. Plus, if you are having an after hours party, I think your guests will enjoy that more. Just my opinion..............
