Are planning on having a civil ceremony before the actual wedding? If yes, how much time before the actual wedding?

Re: How many........
We haven't decided if we are doing interfaith or a civil ceremony but we are doing this at the RH. The CH and reception will follow immediately.

Re: How many........
I guess I said it wrong. I mean like getting married in city hall before the actual wedding.

Re: How many........
Is there a reason you need to do this?
We may need to do something similar because of family issues but if we have to, the ceremony at the wedding will be a vow renewal.

Re: How many........
No not really. For example, my cousin went to get a marriage license and it was $35 and the marriage ceremony was $25 so she got that instead. I was just wondering if anybody else was doing that.

I know in my church,(greek-orthodox) they have you go to city hall for the license about a month before the actually ceremony. otherwise they can't marry you. It might be a good idea to ask the RH or the church where you're getting married. just to be on the safe side.

Re: How many........
FH and I were thinking about getting married in town hall this april for heath insurance reasons, then renewing our vows at our wedding next year, but he just got a new job with benefits and we don't need to now. but other than that, i think i would rather do it the day of my wedding.

Re: How many........
FH and I were going to do this right after we got engaged for health insurance reasons.
we didnt do it for a few reasons
1. it would feel SO WIERD to be technically married and both still living with our parents!
2. we are lazy and didnt feel like figuring out all of the tax stuff
3. i guess i am a romantic at heart and i wanted it to be 'official' on our actual wedding day
of course - you still have to get your wedding LICENSE a little while before the wedding, but it is not a legal document until you two and the officiant sign it
unfortunately we made the wrong decision since FH just had to shell out $6 grand at the dentist
