how many hours do you need for photographer?

I have my first photographer appt. tomorrow and I was wondering how many hours I am going to need one for.

My ceromony starts at 2:30 and the cocktail hour doesnt start until 7:30 and reception is 8:30-12:30.

How early should a photographer arrive to take pictures? I def. want some of me getting ready. I have a feeling this is going to get expensive

TIA!

maybe you can look for photographers that don't charge by the hour. all of the photographers i checked out are with you through the whole affair.

I found some gave you 8 hours of coverage while others gave you 10. Sounds like 10 would cover you since you can a gap bt/ church and RH and will presumably do the family/party pics then. I bet you most photogs would give you 10 hours as part of your package even if they originally quote you 8.

My photographer offers 'full coverage of the day 8 to 10 hours' as part of all his packages.

thanks girls. most of the quotes i have been getting are for 10 hours and im scared thats not going to be enough. i hate having this huge gap between the church and rh!

The photographers I have talked to said they will be with you for the whole day

Check out Golden Moments! They cover your whole day within reason, of course. We booked with them and they will probably go to FH parent's house first and then my dad's house and then church (2:30) and all the way through the reception (7-12). They also said they would stay for a little bit if we did an after hours party at the RH. I think it all goes with the type of package you choose. GL!!

I think you need more than 10 hours if you want getting ready pics and want them to stay till the end of the reception. My ceremony is at 3pm and the reception ends at midnight. I am having the photographer come to my house 2 hours before the ceremony for getting ready pics and will need a total of 11 hours. HTH

Most photogs give you full coverage, that they consider to be 10 hours. Figure out your timeline, you dont necessarily need to know the exact number of hours when you meet with them, just ask them the time they offer and what that means...some of the ones we met with said 10 but in essence said that if it was 11 or 12 and they knew prior not to worry.
My photographer showed up at 1030 and was with us until just before our reception ended at 12 so we had him for quite some time

FIgure out do want them with you while you get your hair and m/u done? and then work your hours from there. Good Luck with your meetings

Your situation would definitely call for a full day of coverage, though don't be discouraged if you visit one that includes 8 or 10 hours. Try to negotiate. Tell them you need them for 12 hours and you don't really need an engagement session, or 4x6 prints. Just try to set your priorities. Some places will go all day no problem though, including:

Many photographers I saw did not set a time frame on when they would be there....They simply said all day coverage, from my getting dressed to the absolute end of my reception...

I had the same timing as you - I had my photographer for 11.5 hours - photog showed up at my house at 1:00 and left when reception was over - Since my photog didn't take many candid pics not sure why he stayed :)
