how many inches should i get for initial monogram cake toppers?

how many inches should i get for initial monogram cake toppers?
alot of sites say it depends on the height of the cake? but i wont know how big or small my cake will be until a month before for the final sit down at our catering hall.
sooooo...what are good sizes? i am not going crazy... going to use the cake fox hollow provides and i think i am going for a square cake.
any help would be appreciated. oh and only doing one initial. ty!!!

I got a 7' one for the middle and then 4' for the 2 sides.

is the 7 inches including the prongs or just the letter itself? and did yuo hve a big cake? ty!!

I did not get married yet But, I already got it and have not really measured it myself. It just said 7' Letter.

thanks..where did you get yours from? i can only find 6'
