how many invitations should i make?
i plan on inviting 150 people. how many extra invitations should i make? 10, 15, 20?

You need to count the # of households you are mailing invitations to ... the # of envelopes that have to go out ... NOT the # of people.
Remember that 1 invite can go to 1 person .... or it can go to a family of 2 or 6. Dividing your head count in 1/2 IS NOT AN ACCURATE COUNT.
Once you have that #, you should add 10 - 15 to it.
