How many items

I don't think there should be a minimum, but there should be a good cross-section price-wise. You shouldn't have only pricey stuff or only cheap stuff, people will want to spend different amounts and there should be a bunch from each category... (more inexpensive things than expensive things, though. some people will want to give you money and a smaller gift. or get wishing well gifts, etc...)

Macys will suggest how many gifts u need based on the amount of people.

I think Macy's does tell you how many you need in each price range, but if you are not using Macys i would just make sure that you have a a few large items, that could either be group gifts or a really nice present from a boss or something like that and then a few in the $100 range and then how every many things in the ranges between. We had an expensive vacuum and then luggage and then added all the fun appliance for the next level and then fine china one level down and then sheets and towels one price range down from there and then every fun gadety thing below that.

Pick out what you want and love. Yes, there should be a good range of prices on there, but don't register for stuff you don't really want just to have more things on the registry!

Some people use registries for bridal shower gifts so there should be less expensive items on there, as well as the high end for group or family gifts, but we tried to stay in like the 40-75 dollar range for most of our items because we figured since most people are coming as coples, they can afford that at least.
