How many of you are paying taxes for your reception
Here is the situation, we are trying to book a catering hall where a friend of our's is getting married. They are not paying any taxes and we were offered the same. My future husband is a CPA and just doesn't feel right about not paying the taxes. So we had asked for the catering hall to reduce the price by the tax rate and give us the same break. They were unwilling to reduce the price. What would you do?

the payements must be all cash. No check's written out to cash.

I would stay far away from them. I have never heard of a place not charging tax and not accepting anything other than cash.

Sounds a little shady to me. Would you have a contract? Would the contract say anything about tax or a service charge? Is this a reputable place that you've heard a lot about? I think if you have the slightest bit of doubt, don't do it. What if they claim that you didn't make a payment? You have no way of proving that you did if you are paying cash only. Think long and hard about whether the reward is worth all the possible risks associated with this.

that is lucky for you $$$$ if a reception hall is not charging tax, but I would be worried. I was told it's able to be done for a smaller venue like a vfw/Knights of Columbus, but for larger halls, that's shady and they are taking a big risk. When you are involving liquior and larger amounts of money they are watched closer, I am surprised they do that.
