How many panic attacks a week constitute a problem?

I just had ANOTHER massive panic attack. I get dizzy and think I'm dying or think that I can't breathe or that I'm not breathing right or that the world is ending. This keeps happening to me, at least twice a week, and I am so embarrassed by it and I don't know what to do. Does anyone know anything about panic disorders?

Hon, I think even one constitutes a problem. Have you thought about seeing a psychologist? There is nothing to be embarrassed about, you are going through quite a bit lately, as evidenced by your posts...especially with your mom.

Maybe you should think about talking to someone?

Oh my goodness, I'm not as much of a mess as I've made myself seem! I swear!
This has been a really rough year for me. It seems like I go through periods where I'm ok for like 4 or 5 months, then periods where I just don't do very well emotionally. I'm in the latter right now. I'm very skeptical when it comes to therapists. I saw this one for a little while and she told me that I was just going through the normal anxieties of life, and when I told her I didn't feel like this was normal, she said that I was doing fine. That ****ed me off. I don't know. I can hold it all together very well professionally and socially, but when I am at home, I feel like I am going nuts sometimes. I just don't understand why I can do that everywhere but here. I don't know. I guess I really should see someone else. But I swear, I'm much more put together than I must seem!

Having to see a therapist does not mean you are a mess!!! Sometimes it helps to have someone to help you sort your feelings out. You can find someone you like- different therapists fit different people!

Yeah, I am definitely going to see someone. I've just had a rough year. Too many life changes at once. I dropped out of grad school, my parents, who I lived with until I was 23, sold the house I grew up in, leaving me to find somewhere to live, they moved to upstate NY, then I moved to MA with FH, then we moved AGAIN because there was a shooting in our complex(!), and now we are settled and I think it's all sinking in. I'm homesick and scared about all the responsibilities I have now, and it's just so much that I think I am cracking. I'm sorry. I hate to put all this on here, but I am just feeling so overwhelmed.

Honestly, if everyone had insurance, I think EVERYONE should see a therapist...just as a sounding board..to bounce ideas off, to just talk about fears/hopes/any thoughts! You should ask around and find out if anyone knows of a really good therapist, don't just pick someone out of a phone book because you can definately have another experience as your first time!

You need to find a way to release what yo are feeling.

Sometimes we get so caught in our **** that we dont have a way to release it.

Try speaking to your internist, maybe he can recommend something.

Sweetie everything will work out. I know things are tough now, but they will get better

I just had a great talk with FH. He was telling me about how he saw a therapist when he was first in college and how it helped him a lot. I think it was the first time I ever really articulated to him what was going on inside my head. Needless to say I will be making some phone calls tomorrow to see someone. Thanks for listening, girls.

Definitly talk to someone about this, my brother is going thru the same kind of things and we have been persuading him to go see someone, becasue talking with a specialist can never hurt you, it can only help.

Good luck!!!!
