How many peopel think guests should give more due to venue?
I am just wondering what the general consensus among the brides on this board is.

i dont' think it's up to the guests to pay for the wedding...it's up to the people. i once went to a bar mitzvah for my boss and it was a huge extravagant elaborate affair....i could never have come even close to covering what they paid per person.....(and he knew that because he signed my paycheck ) yet, he apparently was not satisfied with my gift, and when it came time for chrsitmas bonuses that year, he let me know exactly how he felt and cut the bonus down by about 90% from the year before.
ever since that experience, i have learned that it is unfair to force people to pay for your choices!

Guests are not paying for the wedding. You are. People give gifts, but it is just that: a gift. Nobody should be forced to give a certain amount. I am going to be happy if some people can just travel and come to the wedding.

We usually give between $200 to $300 for a wedding, (depends if the person is a dear friend or distant cousin, etc)....regardless of the venue.

I don't think people should give more based on the venue. It is the couple's choice where they want to have their event. So you shouldn't expect your guests to pay for it.

People should give what they can afford and what they feel comfortable giving. The venue is irrelevant.

most people i know give depending on a combination of how close they know the person, and what they can afford....
if the place is extra expensive($400+) a couple then they may add like $50 extra

I don't think guests should pay more for the venue. It was the coulple's choice to chose an expensive venue. Why should the guests be expectated to compensate. My belief is that you should book the wedding that you could afford and treat the gifts as, well gifts- not for your wedding but for your marriage.
