can a dress (not a wedding dress) be taken in without it completely ruining the look of the dress?

its actually a gown... it needs to be taken in about 5 sizes but i dont know if thats possible... FH got it for me right before i lost all the weight and i only got to wear it once

Hmmm.... I know that my seamstress once told me it would be cheaper to get a new dress than to pay for alterations (and that was a 2 size difference) but I think it really depends on the dress though. Maybe you can take it in and ask them if it can be done and how much it costs as well.

in high school i fell in love with a prom dress but the only one available was a size 12 and i was a 4 - i got it taken in and it ended up fine. it depends on the tailor - find someone good and ask them what their thoughts are!

I dont have a pic of it...but its a very pretty back...I cant even describe it. Its not flat though which is why im worried it wont come in very easily.

My sister bought a dress from BCBG (the one I wore to TWOTY) in an 8 and she needed it taken in to a 2. She took it to 2 places and they both told her the dress couldn't be taken in that much... which is how I ended up with it.

yeah i really think it depends on the dress. i mean for my wedding dress, they said 3 sizes. i would think with less beading its easier but honestly, not sure, sorry i guess im no help.

my BM asked the lady while ordering her dress and she said they would be able to take it in 4 sizes before ruining the look of the dress.

It doesn't hurt to bring it to a tailor though and see what they say... it'll depend on the style of the dress and I definitley don't know enough about sewing to know what kinds of things can be taken in or not...
